| The Playstation 3 console was first shown to
the public during E3 2005. The Playstation 3 console will be able
to run games with more realistic physics and far better graphics
than the Playstation 2. Sony’s goal was to make a game consol
that could for the first time render computer graphics with the
quality of Hollywood CG movies, but in real time. To make this possible
the Playstation 3 console has been equipped with some extremely
powerful hardware and computer chips. At the heart of the Playstation
3 console is the revolutionary “Cell” processor. The
Cell processor has been developed with the help from Toshiba and
IBM, and the computing power of this chip is mind-blowing to say
the least. See Playstation
3 specs for details. The graphic card in Playstation 3 is developed
together with Nvidia and is several times as powerful as any card
available on the market today. The Playstation 3 will support up
to 7 wireless controllers for multiplayer gaming and is also backward
compatible so you can still play your favorite PS2 and PS1 games.
Playstation 3 also supports the highest resolution of HDTVs which
will bring console game graphics to a whole new level. As of yet
no release date is announced but The Playstation 3 will most likely
come out first or second quarter 2006.
