A few days ago we reported on a rumor that suggested that Sony could be using a new DRM (Digital Rights Management) system to prevent people from playing second hand games on their PS3. Sony has now commented on the rumor, confirming that the newly patented DRM system will not be used in the PS3.
"I would like to clarify that this is false speculation and that PlayStation 3 software will not be copy protected to a single machine but will be playable on any PlayStation 3 console," said a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson. The guys from 1up.com stated that they had talked to Kojima (spelling?) and he told them that he could have made MGS4 for the 360, but just chose the PS3. It has already been said so by game developers. Now for people who are saying that over time the ps3 will show its power overxbox360.. If this EDC article is current then perhaps that could be why there has been no gameplay footage of ps3. To # 11Unregistered - Dahkness 11.17.2005 18:48 Actually the Xbox 360 can handle 6 threads per cycle, 2 per CPU. not "All at the same time" more so to show the power of the xbox, all games that are being released right now for the 360 are only using 2 threads the whole time. They havent even tapped the potential of multi threading processing yet. It hasnt been done in gaming like this before so it will take the devs a lil more time to get friendly with that type of programing. Also this whol 7 core cell processor b/s you keep touting , sure it has 7 cores, the Main cores instruction set is different then the other 6 cores. That means programing for the cell will be much harder since there are 2 different types of instructions depending on which core you are talking to. Also the way xbox utlizes its onboard cache allows the developers to write to an exact memory address , us it for whatever it wants, if you do your research, you will see how this process is almost identical to how the cell works. The cell processor is powerful, but make no mistake, it will not all be used just to run games. Also the Blu-ray DVD also will not be used JUST for games. You can gurantee that they will be using only 1 or 2 cores of that CPU for gaming, as well as 5 to 10 gigs of the blu ray just for games, much like today. Sony has other plans in store for their system. They do not even call it a gaming system, to call it that would be a waste of alot of processing and alot of disk space. It will have multi roles you havent thought of yet, but I can say for sure, that the PS3 will not run games any better then an xbox 360. The only differeance is, Xbox uses all its horsepower for gaming. PS3 only uses a little, which it should, it is moderatly more powerful and is intended for other uses. 47 -
