According to Sony Computer Entertainment Australia managing director, Michael Ephraim, Sony is likely to abandon its practice of region coding games for the PS3. The current consoles on the market today contains technology that blocks the use of game and DVD discs that have been region coded for other markets. However Michael Ephraim, said the company was unlikely to continue the policy as international television standards emerge. "If you look at the fact that it will support high-definition TV, which will be a global standard, there's a good likelihood that it will be global region, as for example we've done with the PSP (PlayStation Portable)," Mr Ephraim said. Many had hoped that the Xbox 360 would be region free, but Microsoft decided to keep the region coding for their next-gen console. If Sony decides to make the PS3 region free it will come as good news to many gamers, as one would be able to play import games without needing to install a mod chip. Many games are never released outside Japan, so if However Michael Ephraim can follow up on his promises we can all enjoy quirky Japanese games on the PS3 without having to lose the console warranty, which is no longer valid after installing a mod chip. I'm going to wait it out like AnbuisZero because I really want to hear reviews and more about the next gen games because it seems too early right now plus I still have cheap games to purchase from the old consoles. I'll purchase the ps3 and 360 but I'm kinda skeptic about the Revolution until I see mature rated games and what Nintendo's doing, Yardie said something about "Game Informer" I read Octobers Issue it has some news about 360 games. I also read another article they showed House of the Dead and Virtual Fighter 5 in the arcades and they looked 100% better than the old versions can't wait to play those games on the next gen consoles they look cool. 24 -

It does not even seem to register to me as anything to be excited about. I owned both a PS2 and an XBOX, but I sold the xbox because it didn't feel... well, like I was in the games. I played halo 2 online, bought the headset and live so I could play halo 2 online. But the game sucked. I had to be thrown into random games and there was no skill involved in it. I look at what Microsoft has as far as "exclusive to the xbox" titles and they do not personally make me want to play them. I look at the Sony camp and what they have, and I really am looking forward to it. Socom, GTA (out sooner than xbox has it), next game from Shadow of the Colosus developers, God of War 2, Gran Turismo 5... These are all games that I want to play. I can not afford both. Ps3 has free online, Blueray, hard drive with linux (maybe), New Cell processor and seems to be more "technically advanced". So I am holding off for the PS3 as I think it will be better value in the long run and it has the games I want to play. 27 -

It will release and movie companies will start offering their movies in HD one blueray disks but not many people will buy them at first only people who have a PS3 and an HD tv. And a few who actually buy dedicated players. If you dont have an HD tv then blueray doesnt mean much to you. DVD still has a while before it is replaced as the mainstreem format. The xbox was more expensive in Canada because our currency isn't the same as American currency, Me and my friend don't even like both companies, he was disatified with the games for the xbox so he sold everything. Most people I know are already on their 4th xbox so far because the disc drives don't function properly after a certain period of time, they sold their xbox after a couple of years because of their own reasons it's not my problem.
