Emergent Technologies has announced that it is developing a version of its Gamebryo 2.1 game engine for the Playstation 3.
Speaking at the Austin Game Conference, Emergent’s president and CEO Geoffrey Selzer stated, “We’re making the technology, tools and middleware that we believe will usher in the next phase of innovation in game development and game play […] The next generation of games will require greater innovation while facing increased complexity and costs of development.
We are driving the state of the art of game development, offering visibility into and control of the development process.” Game engines are big business these days. Epic Games, creators of Unreal Engine 3 is making big profits by licensing their game engine to other game developers. Emergent has already released an Xbox 360 compatible version of Gamebryo 2.1. So far we know only of one 360 game using the engine, “Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion”, but judging by that game this engine looks equally impressive to the Unreal Engine 3. Add Comment  1 -

xxxxxx 10.31.2005 18:54 I know I've said a million and one times the 360 is superior to the PS3, but recently I've done some studying on the 2 systems and it seems that the PS3 is better than the 360. Besides being technically superior in almost every way the PS3 also has a far larger customer base than does the 360 and only a moron would argue that. Also, if you realy take a good look at 360 game and Xbox games, you'll see that the 360 is not really nexgen, but instead an Xbox 1.5 of sorts. As of this weekend I have gotten a refund on my 360 preorder and am patiently waiting for PS3 preorders to start. I'm strongly advising you, the Xbox 360 is not what you think it will be. Cancel your orders if possible. 7 -

PAUL CERULA 10.31.2005 23:53 I don't understand why so many people anticipate the ps3 to that degree. When sony hasn't given any concrete ingame play demonstrations. Killzone and MGS4 is a hurdle sony has made for themselves to try to meet by that time. I don't know when killzone is planned but if it is at ps3 launch than they won't meet that standard. They'll be slightly under and you'll say well it's close enough. MGS4 is what 2007 or something. You've got to be kidding me when you say that those graphics are what to expect. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT .. ALL YOU HAVE IS SONY'S HYPE. SO STOP BELIEVING IN THE UNSEEN I still think ps3 will have marginal better graphics and physics, so you'll have to decide what console is best for you. Xbox 360 is my choice, i'm not a fanboy, you make your choice 13 -

They like MGS, Final Fantasy, Killzone, God of War, and the other Sony franchises. You said in an earlier post that it was a person's choice of what console they chose. Not everybody only likes MS. Some people like the gaming on the PS2 and therefore are looking forward to the PS3 because it will have their favorite franchises on it. You said it yourself: games sell consoles. It only proves that you are just a MS fanboy when you keep trying to get people to "convert" to MS. 14 -
