At the recent CEATEC event in Japan, Sony Corporations Chairman and CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, talked about Sony’s role in the Consumer Electronics world, and how PSP, PS3 and the CELL will bring us the next generation of digital entertainment.
"The Cell microprocessor which Sony developed with IBM and Toshiba clearly sets the PS3 apart. It is 35 times faster than the processor in the PS2. 10 times the power of a standard PC and twice the processing power of Microsoft's new Xbox360. This technology allows for super computer like performance, moving quality images and the degree of realism that is simply amazing in a home gaming device. It's been said in the press that no other chip in the world can touch it. We are confident that this is true." Xbox live, ok, they had that before, maybe a new version now, but not next gen. Hmm...still dvd, not a revolutionary processor, multicore has been done before, same controller, although wireless, so is WAVEBIRD. You guys are Idiots. Ps3 is truly next gen. Now, here is the thing, ps3 showed some real time graphics, and they showed some pre-rendered graphics. They said, the games will look like that, you know what, maybe they will, maybe they wont, but will be close enough. Now, 360, showed actual gameplay, but this is where we differ people. The gameply graphics on the 360 do not meet my expectations of a truly next gen console. So, what I am going to to is, wait for PS3 and see if they can actually deliver on their promise of the graphic and gameplay experience, instead of hurryng up and buying an xbox360. If I see that the PS3 couldnt live up to the expectaions, then who knows, maybe I'll get an xbox 360. Its not that big of a deal. You guys are acting like your mom and dad made the 360. Blu-ray and Hd-dvd are both High def dvd's, They are both competing to be the next format and Blu-ray is winning the war with leaps and bounds. Blu-ray is superior in every way to hd-dvd. Blu-ray can hold much more data, its using the Durabis coating from TDK which gives much more protection from scratches and dust (hd-dvd isnt) The copyright protection against piracy is better with Blu-ray which is important to studios and to us that actually buy movies and music with out ripping them or purchasing pirated copies. JVC created a hybrid disc that plays both dvd and Blu-ray content on the same side to ease the transition from standard dvd to Blu-ray. Every one of the Computer makers, including Dell and HP (the 2 largest are backing blu-ray, everyone of the Movies studios are backing Blu-ray except Universal, Warner and New Line. Paramount just announced they are now backing Blu-ray and Warner brothers and New Line are expected to release a statment anytime stating they are switching as well then Universal is said to follow. That will give Blu-ray 100% studio support, All the electronic companies are supporting Blu-ray except Toshiba, and NEC. Its being said all over the net that hd-dvd has pretty much lost already and may never even make it out. Even the Music industry is embracing Blu-ray, Universal Music (one of the largest music companies) is backing them and so is Sony music, Epic records, Columbia records, and BMG who just merged with Sony in 2004. So there you go. Blu-ray is in place to be the next standard for Movies, Games, Computers, Music and more. Oh and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd (owners of the Panasonic brand) have established a new technology which will lower the production costs of next generation Blu-Ray discs to almost the same level as current DVD production costs. Dvd plays didnt play VHS and VHS wouldnt Play dvd. This is going from DVD to Blu-ray which is just a High def DVD. Now, since JVC created a hybird, that means that the can make just hybrids to start out which will play in a current dvd player with the red laser but still play in the Blu-ray player using the Blue laser and so people wont have to buy one or the other. And if people dont want to have to buy movies over again in Blu-ray, they wont have to since the Blu-ray players will play current dvds. So as you can see the transition should be very simple to the point that many may not even notice much of a switch. 32 -

Microfuks only wish they could build up hype as good as Sony does. Everyone knows that, so quit making that your #1 point every time you FagBox036 fagboys mention Sony. It's nothing new. What you fail to realize is that when Sony builds up hype, it's because they have to. Every company out there does it. Microfags does the same thing to one extent or another. So what, if they didn't deliver with everything they said about the PS2, 9 1/2 out of 10 (the 1/2 being a midget) still played the hell out of there PS2 with their LARGE selection of games. Nintendo promised online play and never came through. Who gives a sh!t? I own a GC and still love Nintendo for the innovations they have brought to the industry. I respect Sony for giving any developers a chance to make games for their console, something that Nintendo was not too fond of doing in fear that it could hurt their image (I'm sure they won’t be thinking like that this time around). Microfuks has brought absolutely nothing new to the industry (they gave you better service for online gaming. Big F@$king whoop!) Still Nintendo and Sega were the originals. Oh and lets not for get First Person Shooters (Which is all they ever make or at least seem to focus on) Pathetic. All the X-twat fanboys have been bread to hate everything else and for this I'm not sure whether I would want to play online with a bunch of twat face ZOMBIES playing a FPS game like HALO 2. In the end though I'm glad all three systems can coexist. Competition drives the future, and that's exsacly where Sony was thinking when they created the PS3 (the future of gaming). Think of it this way. Sports. How F#*king boring would it be if there was only one sport in this F'ed up world. Instead you have a sh!t load of different types. So in conclusion pick the sports (consoles) you like, pick your favorite teams (games) and enjoy the hell out of them. Theone odd curveball that came from nowhere was the Revolution controller. That is the one thing that may prove to be the real next generation innovation. The PS3 can display to two screens - thumbs up The eyetoy was quite a good inovation the current generation.. and they will obiously improve on it. All that I see from MS is - Hell - Sony has an eyetoy - so lets copy it quickly and claim that it is innovation. Sony has a real next gen CPU so lets get at least a multi processor so that we can pretend to do the same. All copy - no innovation. And then the revolution controller was announced - the one MS guy applauds - and the next week the VP tries to downplay it and pretend that they tried it as well. I don't think the ps3 will be over 500-600 or 400 right now the Xbox 360 is priced at 399.99 for the premium edition console and Sony excutives are going to watch microsofts sales as a hawk to see if the price for it is attractive or unattractive to the consumer. I heard games for the next gen consoles will be $59.99, normally I would be pissed at this type of price but if game developers put more into the games it's worth it to pay that price. Who knows who'll sell more consoles microsoft, Sony, and maybe Nintendo whoever steps up to make better games is going to appeal to the people, to tell you all the truth innovative games sell more than average games. If Sony takes their time right now the games in the trailers will be beyond what was seen at E3 or TGS, maybe the graphics and so on will be revolutionary who knows, it's really up to the developers. Nintendo on the other hand is playing it smart because no one knows what their doing with the games so they can keep their ideas safe, Nintendo is probably going to make a come back for non-gamers and gamers maybe they will, maybe they won't this I believe in Nintendo this time. Sony's giving game developers time so they can put their ideas and stuff into the games and adjust to the console, I mean Sony game developers couldn't put all the things they wanted into the games because they had limited tools. Oh some guy named "The Truth/Fish Man" said that sonys using three dev kits so the MGS 4 trailer was probably the first Cronos dev kit, anyways until all three concoles are out no one hasn't won the console war. 2 ALL BILL GATE CLONES LOL X-BOTSUnregistered - NEW YORK GANGSTER 10.11.2005 12:40 Here's something to set the record straight for the blur people: The great thing about PS3's CELL SPEs is that unlike Xbox 360, it is multipurpose meaning that it can render graphics, calculate AI's and physics efficiently. If you all saw The Next-Gen Getaway video, which btw featured HDR lighting and such, it was all done by the CELL without the graphics chip RSX. That pretty much tells you how powerful CELL truly is. RSX is said to be faster and advanced than the current high-end video card king, Nvidia 7800GTX. Any graphics rendering would be done by the RSX therefore developers would only utilize 1 SPE to help render the effects although using 2 SPE's would be a tremendous help to the GPU. If all the graphics are done by RSX without the help of CELL, there would be extra SPE's for AI and Physics calculation. We all know there will be 7 active SPE's. 1 SPE is almost guaranteed for sound processing. The remaining 6 would be utilized for physics and AI. If what is said about AGEIA NovodeX using only 1 SPE is true, the usage of 2 SPE's for physics would mean better graphics and physics in games. AI most certainly would only use 2 SPE's at the most and that would leave 2 remaining SPE's. Which will be used to aid graphics rendering eventually if it won't be used for any other work. Not to bash X360, but it's just basically a custom-built computer with innovative graphical features. It's GPU; Xenos, will be doing all the graphics all by itself. The CPU will be a tri-core CPU sharing 1mb L2 cache. In developers' world, that doesn't sound good. And X360 does not utilize the next-gen optical format. Disc capacity is already an uprising issue. If you take a look at Xbox 360 games, you would notice that most of it's games looks good and comparable to the new PC games. Quake 4 on Xbox 360 looks just as good as it's PC counterpart. However, it is worth mentioning that the game will be running on locked 30fps. Everyone who is an avid gamer would tell you that 60fps is the sweet spot and running a current-gen PC game at 30fps on a next-gen console is a sign of weakness. As FPS makers, they should know 60fps will always be preferred over 30fps. Although I know some of you might disagree and say that it's not optimized(which I think is *expletive deleted*), I am merely stating that X360 games looks just like current-gen PC games.
