Sales Numbers Predicted
30 Sep 2005 07:36 | DragonFly | Systems | Playstation 3 | Xbox 360 | Revolution
PS3Today.com | Link to this article

The guys over at Piper Jaffray, who most likely have never held a game controller in their hands, are making headlines again with their predictions. This time they are predicting the number of hardware units to be sold in the coming years for all major systems in the US.

As always, predictions are just that, predictions. The numbers are optimistic and overall hardware units sold are predicted to grow 30% from 2006 to 2011. Most of that growth will be in handheld hardware, which has been tipped to grow 45% over the next cycle. Software growth is predicted to go from $7.0 billion in 2005 to $10.0 billion in 2008.

Piper Jaffray also predicts PS3 and Revolution to hit the US market late 2006, and that we will see a new HD equipped version of Sony’s PSP mid-2006.

Hardware market share for the next cycle is predicted to be 45%-50% for Sony, Microsoft at 35%-40% and Nintendo with 15%. Xbox 360 is predicted to be the market leader through 2008, but with Sony quickly catching up.

A new PSP net year? Credibility denied.

I find these kind of predicitions extremely useless. There are so many outside/inside agency's that can affect the outcome, however slightly, of console/handheld sales that compiling a list like this is almost a waste of time. I'm not saying they're completely off, they must at least know something about what they're talking about, though the numbers and ratio between handheld and console seem extremely unrealistic.

Also, such belated sales for PS3 (or; the growth in sales) seems quite unlikely, as I also don't think that if that would be the case, they'd catch up to the sales of the X360 before 2009. Though I do realise that this time around, everything will be alot more evenly matched between X360 and PS3. Ideally for us, would of course be a market share of aprox. Sony: 40%, MS: 40% Revo: 20% (Maybe even 45,45,10. But I'd like to see Nintendo prove itself with this new console before jumping to extreme conclusions.) I doubt I have to explain why, as most of you should realise this. Think about things like developers support, exclusives for consoles, support, etc.

But...I think the coming generation Sony will still hold the lead in the market, albeit quite smaller than this time. Still, numbers like these say nothing.

That article was ported straight from our sister site Xbox360News, that is why it said Xbox controller, which btw has been edited now to make more sence at this site.

7 - Eh?
Maleficus the Great 09.30.2005 10:38
Dear #6, just how do you expect Sony to get 60-70% of the market? This is a new generation of systems, and support for Microsoft has and will greatly increase.
There is no doubt in my mind that Sony will still hold it's status as the largest company on the market, but it will be much less than the previous generation.

Do they seriously believe that the PSP will outsell the PS3 and the 360? And where is the DS in those figures, hmm? Nintendo is the king of handhelds, not Sony.

Vivicious 09.30.2005 11:26
#9 Gameboy - Series = I think DS, GBA, Micro, etc.

11 - Here's how I see it
Unregistered - Punk Street 09.30.2005 13:48
Here's how I see it, the Ps3 and the Xbox 360 will be tied and I think the psp will gain more games and stuff, but the stupid bastards didn't include the Ds that's pretty cold.

Well the PsP will probably have more good games by the fall, christmas and also next year. The DS needs more original games like that lawyer game Phoenix Right and the Under the Stephascope, Nintendo Dogs is a one time deal it's like Tamagotchi, Pogs, Ferby, Tickle Me Elmo and Neo Pets it'll be popular for a while then it'll get repetitive and boring to kids and females.

12 - Ps3 and Xbox 360
Unregistered - Wired 09.30.2005 14:04
I think the Ps3 and Xbox 360 will be fine in sales equally since they both have games for hardcore and casual gamers, the President for Sony America said the Ps3 won't be expensive and that it will be competivly priced with the 360.

But I'm kinda worried about the Revolution becasue they have't showed or said what kind of games will be available on the system except that you can play old nintendo games, I don't want mario games, Sonic the Hedgehog games are starting to evolve a little.

13 -
Maleficus the Great 09.30.2005 14:33
I agree with you, #12. Nintendo needs to realize that gamers are getting older and that we have had enough Mario sports games and Donkey Kongas. We want more original, more mature(like Final Fantasy or MGS, not like GTA) games instead of the same old repetitive characters and game styles. I might regret saying this, but a D.k. or Mario R.P.G. might actually be a good idea. They need to get a good mature franchise like MGS or Halo, stop with the kiddie graphics and stories, and focus on their games rather than gimmicks like that horrible controller.

14 -
Unregistered - Weird 09.30.2005 15:21
The original creator for Mario and Donkey Kong threatened the UK Rare President or somnething bcause it was in a closed meeting room and thats why D.K. Country got dumb down on the N64. Star Fox use to be so damn good but Nintendo killed that too, I don't hate nintendo but Star Fox could have evovled into something better and mature, Nintendo needs more original developers mainly 3rd party developers.

The games don't have to be like GTA, but Nintendo needs to get it's act together and stop bull shitting people with the same crap, the DS is innovative but the only games that caught my interest were Phoenix Right Attoreny at law and Under the StethoScope that Surgery game.

15 - It's not going to happen.
Unregistered - PS3Player 09.30.2005 16:06
How the hell can someone predicts what the fuck is going to happen since when can normal people see the future. These numbers are pure bullshit. I don't know what is going to happen, Sony might win, Microsoft might win, hell even Nintendo might win, the truth is that we don't have a clue except from the fact that Sony has a larger fan base around the world.Time will tell, all we have to do is wait and see. These arguments don't mean shit.

18 - what about PCs?
Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.30.2005 16:58
it looks like consoles are stealing the marketshare of PCs, but i think this will be temporary. the consoles look amazing now but what abot mid 2006 or mid 2007? look at we will have in future PCs:
mid 2006: intel "conroe" cpu, dual core,4 mb L2 cache or possibly AMD K9+ Nvidia "G80" & ATI "R600" which will have 512 mb GDDR4, unified shaders, shader model 4.0 and much than better than RSX-Xenos.
i think PCs will rise again. what do you think?

19 - USELESS INFORMATION!!!!
Unregistered - GAMEFACE 09.30.2005 18:03
Hey I think the picture of the crystal ball says it all about these so called precitions. "Abba cadabra" or whatever you call it, they have no idea what is going to happen, listen anyone can make a general conclusion based on past sales or just a good educated guess about what they think will happen, but trying to pretend that they have some special way of predicting the actual sales figures is garbage. I remember when Nintendo was king and everyone thought they would remain that way for a long, long time, the so called "experts" doubted that the other consoles would be competitive against the "BIG N" as they used to be called, but the funny thing about the videogame industry is that it changes very quickly if you dont stay on top of your game. In my opinion Nintendo failed to grow along with their older fans, they continued to focus on games for the younger gamers, while the teens and the 20+ fans were looking for more than just another Mario game. Thats why I think company's like Sega and eventually Sony became so successful. So the bottom line is NOBODY know's what will happen, of course anybody could guess that the 360 will do well in the begining because its first next gen console out, and the XBOX has a pretty good reputation, but in the end the one that has the best quality for the money, and more importantly the company that keeps pushing the limits of their system with great games will be the one that sells the best in this next generation of the videogaming war.

Alright first off realize that ps3 is not cheap or equivilant to the 360. As rumored and somewhat proven the console, controller, and cables/accessories will be around 400 dollars, no hard drive, no headset. Ok then we have it's counterpart from Micrsoft that includes all that ps3 does plus what I said it didn't. The hard drive that sony will not have is going to cost +80-100, and that's for the majority of serious and mediocre players. And as suspected the ps3 will have little difference in graphical improvement and general performance for their more expensive console. Sony online will be blown out of the water by xbox 360. I will admit an almost definate graphics superiority from sony but it is not worth the 100 more dollars. Also when sony is clearly beaten in other console areas. Also what kind of games could the ps3 offer americans but MGS4 and sports games. Before you choose which console make sure you weigh which games would be the best for you because the graphics difference will be almost unnoticable. PLEASE BEFORE BUYING TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT MAYBE YOU DIDN'T HITCH YOUR WAGON TO THE BEST COMPANY.

23 - Lag in PS3 Sales
Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.01.2005 06:19
OK it's pretty obvious to me having spent some time on this site that the majority of people who post on here would buy a PS3 no matter what it cost and how it performed. Most of them if they could would buy one on or as close to the launch date as possible.

There are other sectors of the gaming market to consider however. I'll be owning all three of the next generation titles and much like the current generation I believe the PS3 will be the last console of the next generation that I purchase, and not for a few years once the price point has dropped as low as it can go.

There are many reasons for this but the main one in my opinion is that I have the least goodwill for Sony of all the console manufacturers. I don't want to be held to ransom as a video gamer to help Sony through it's current financial rough patch. Why should I have to pay over the odds for a console purely so they can add Blu-Ray to the machine in order to try and generate some momentum for the format and add Cell so they can achieve the cost reductions associated with the economies of scale of mass production.

Most of the other multi format gamers I know feel the same and if a large portion of multi format gamers around the world feel the same Sony might find it struggles to generate momentum for it's console without a price cut.

In this world reputation is everything and the PSP didn't do us in Europe any favours in eroding the damage SCE did to it's during the PS2 launch. This and the trojan horse aspects of the PS3 and I'd say my feelings towards them are bordering on contempt.

#22 you are a fanboy trying to get people to go for xbox 360

25 - #22 ignore #24.....
Nodieza 10.01.2005 10:34

Thank you for decent argument but I must disagree and agree on a few things.

1. Hard Drives are super cheap nowadays, 200 gig for about $80 if you know where to look, and I guarantee it's not going to be 200gig so let's say 80gig, it can't possibly cost sony more than $30 bucks for one. Mass Producing, etc.

2. Everyone will want a hardrive, the benefits are almost required, custom soundtracks? Who WOULDN't want that with all the shitty EA game TRAX'ez. Plus nuemerous other benefits I am certain all you Xbox users already know.

3. Don't get me started on general performance, Cell with 3 Spe's can match up to xbox, but it has 8, one for redundancy, 7 which is still more than 3. One for physics, one for Ai and one for real time animations and Cell to do the rest and you got one smooth mutha for a console, same scenario with 360 and the three processors will just be juggling everything around like a standard multicore computer. Side note: Military has already released that they will be using cell processors for multiple applications, come on the military, cell must be good.

4. Comments on the internet service is pointless buddy, Sony hasn't revealed theirs yet. Please don't make stabs in the dark, your only making yourself look that much more unprofessional. Side note: I don't play games online so even IF ps3 is lacking wouldn't change my mind, yet again it's all about taste.

5. Even if it is 100 more dollars I believe it'll be worth it for the blu ray player alone, shit they are going to be costing around $300 (the cheapest) around the time Ps3 comes out if not hundreds more. Standard 1080 resoloution will make all ps3 games jump out and give them a wow factor.

6. Americans love Devil May Cry. Resi Evil(on xbox 360 as well I know), Katamari fucking owned, Castlevania, Sonic (360), Dynasty Warriors(maybe 360), and Americans like RPG's too man, If the FF series wasn't going to shitz things would be better in the RPG scene. Armored Core (360). It just depends on taste. The Japanese TEND to be more original I am personally sick of war games and sports games and I have about 32 ps2 games none of which are sports or war(ww2) games so there must be great appeal towards me and I am an american, Halo fine HL2 fine, Doom 3 fine,Battlefield awsome... but enough with the WW2 games.... anyways

7. Glad all comments were made without an Xbot 360 or Ps3 sux, I've not mentioned that any system will "rape" the other because I think it just depends on what you are looking for. I HAVE to own a ps3 because of metal gear, that's my franchise, but I am definity not going to ignore the 360, Perfect Dark has and always will be my favorite FPS so I am in a bind.

8. Your last sentance is worth quoting "PLEASE BEFORE BUYING TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT MAYBE YOU DIDN'T HITCH YOUR WAGON TO THE BEST COMPANY." Peace Man!

Vivicious 10.01.2005 11:29
Nordieza, you're talking about 3,5" hard drives, I'm sure PS 3 will also implement a 2,5" hard drive like the X360 which will really make the costs shoot up, $100,- would be very reasonable for an 80GB harddrive, but I think it will be possible by the time the PS3 is released.

You're also kind of ignoring certain aspects of the Cell processor, and the tech involved in the X360, but that's a whole dif. discussion. We don't want to go too far off track ;-)

27 - ITS A TIE
Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.01.2005 18:08
those predictions are useless and don't lead any where excpt in their ......but guys with all the stuff being sayed that the ps3 will be better than x360 in graphics and processing power, that the ps3 is 10 or 20 times powerful than x360 but if you look at the demos from both console they look the same despite the shit going on about gears of war running on 1 core and MGS running on early dev kits. so i think that sony made a mistake by announcing their ps3 specs, should have waited like nintedo .not revealing anything yet because sony is gonna be forced to bring an unfinished product in which what they promised won't be their(in the ps3)

28 - Physics
Punk Street 10.01.2005 19:20
Well the physics in the games should be more better because of the physic engines, so the games in the next consoles should be more realisitc, well I know what I'm saying will be irrelavent but Game Developers can do amazing things.

Valve did it on the pc so on the consoles so it should be eye candy to watch when playing games on the consoles, say whatever you want, but people though it was crazy to fly a rocket to the moon and people were proven wrong.

32 - To #30
Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.02.2005 09:19
if microsoft had the blu-ray, it was the best and greatest feature of xbox but now that they don't, it's not a big deal. yeah, yeah, what a logic! these consoles are supposed to live until 2011-2012. i'm sure that in 2010,even ordinary games (not big RPGs like oblivion) will require much more than 9 gig (or even 18 gig if you use two dual layer dvd-roms). certainly it will be a headache for xbox fans to change disks frequently in a driving or action game.by the way don't forget about the data streaming from optical drive to the system. blu-ray can stream much more data and this is a great advantage ps3 has over the xbox360.
as i look into these consoles, i can say that ps3 is technically perfect plus sony traditionaly has and will have the best library of games. xbox360 is very good but has limitations (it's cpu, regular dvd-rom),microsoft could make it perfect like ps3 by releasing it later and put an hddvd-rom in it and making it's cpu stronger (quad core for example), making the hard drive standard. about revolution i think we must wait and see.

Vivicious 10.02.2005 13:51
#32, In general, Games (besides typical Japanese RPG's with all that CGI etc.) of the same generation will not get bigger, in fact, they will get smaller. So though a jump in generation will show games growing in size the coming year or so, after that they'll even out in size and possibly even be compressed better, taking up less space. Especially the top developers always try this. Expecting an average game in 2010 to be around 9 GB might be realistic, but by then PS3 will have Blu-ray and X360 will have HD-DVD, so it won't matter. I doubt either of the consoles will find problems with their DVD drives.

37 -
Vivicious 10.02.2005 13:52
Punk Street, I've played several X360 games, and I'm sure alot of people will have held the PS3 in their hands already. Though, granted, that's a very small percentage, and probably none of the "smack talkers". :-D

Unregistered - Bob 10.02.2005 14:29
To the idiot who thinks Blu-ray will have an effect on games: Sony is including Blu-ray in the PS3 not for the purpose of gaming, but because they want a new format for HD MOVIES. As someone already stated, games will not need all of that capacity unless they will feature high-res videos, and even Microsoft can do this with X360 because games don't necessarily have to span one disc. HD-DVD/Blu-ray is purely for movies, and I'd imagine games would take forever to load on either format. So it's really a matter of next-gen services. Microsoft has Xbox Live, Sony has Cell. Are you a social gamer or a tech nerd? It all comes down to this.

40 - Sorry
Punk Street 10.02.2005 15:39
Sorry people but it gets tiring listening to the same old smack talk every single time, I just want to talk about the games is that to hard for me to ask for on this forum.

41 - does tech matter all?
Unregistered - Dude 10.02.2005 16:29
EVERYBODY is talking about the technology, when only the games are the point of the matter. For crying out loud, you could be playing a Final Fantasy II on your SNES and still be enjoying the game. Or playing Pokemon Red/Blue on your Gameboy Color and STILL enjoy the game.
Really, the cell technology, blu ray disc, hardware, matters nothing. If neither damn consoles can't support the games that will be released, what's the point of having the console? Does everyone care about the graphics of a game? or do they want a storyline with compelling battle systems? Blu ray discs ARE for movies and footage, cell tech may be better, but nonetheless, they are only appendages to a console. Microsoft could be using those, and hell, might even be utilizing it better then Sony. That game Ninety-Nine Nights looks mighty fine on the XBOX, and so does Genji 2 for the PS3.
If you guys are really die hard fans for your system, then concede to the fact that you only, ONLY play that system because you have experience extreme gameplay on that system's GAMES.
Am I correct people?

I don't hate or dislike the Xbox 360 but I want a lot of original games on each console just like ICO, Oddworld strangers Wrath, God of War, and psychonauts because those games were fun.

Well if they're going to be original games on the consoles I want to see an orinial mature rated thievery type game where the gamer uses stealth and you use weapons to knock guards unconscious, I can think of a lot of stuff on a game like that, but it would take too long to post.

Unregistered - Truth 10.03.2005 01:22
You sir are an utter, complete moron if you think Blu-Ray has no practical function for gaming. Right now they only have 2x drives out, but as soon as the PS3 gets shipping they will have 4x and even 8x drives which load significantly faster than current CD/DVD's. The 2x are, in fact, already on par with the DVD-9 drives of the XBOX 360.

And for the space? Again, San Andreas took up every single byte of the 8GB dual-layered DVD's so imagine a game with much more high-resolution textures. That alone would easily eat up a good 2-8 more GB's of data. I would speculate that a GTA on the PS3 would run at or over 20-30GB's. Much more that a dual -layer 15GB DVD-9 can handle. In fact, scratch that I believe only DVD-18's can handle 15GB's... DVD-9's can only handle like 8GB. Not 100%, but roughly 99% on that one.

No, both the PS3 and XBOX 360 will not include a hard drive. The XBOX 360 as we all know is coming out with two models. A basic and a premium. The latter is coming with a hard drive if I'm not mistaken. However, nothing is known on the PS3 front as far as them releasing two different priced consoles, one with and one without a hard drive. Since they've outwardly bashed the XBOX 360 for them doing it I doubt they would at this point. So, you'll have to buy a seperate hard drive for the PS3 I'm assuming. I would hope that the hard drive is immediately available at it's launch though, unlike the PS2 which we had to wait a substantial amount of time. :/

Hope that helps.

Victory for the Sony PS3 looking more unlikely as support for Kutaragi drops

Can Kutaragi shake off the Xbox 360 with his commitment to hardware evolution?
Japan’s recent general election, featuring Koizumi’s battalion of “smiling assassins” [high-profile women media personalities and diplomats designed to dazzle voters], resulted in an emphatic victory for Koizumi. This winter, the next-generation gaming industry also appeared to be gearing up for a general election. The question is, which next-generation console will be victorious?

In the middle of this month, the gaming industry’s biggest event, “Tokyo Game Show 2005?, was held at Makuhari Messe. The catch cry for TGS was, “You can see the future from the front seat.” Smiling wryly, a major software company executive remarked, “We [the software industry] are the ones who really want to see the future.”

With a sigh, he continued: “Next-generation game consoles are like a general election. For software makers like us, [choosing a platform to develop for] has been a drawn-out process similar to choosing a political power or political party to support, and it is extremely difficult to predict the outcome.”

The highlight of this general election for the gaming industry will be seeing whether the “Oda-Nobunaga [powerful Japanese ruler and well-known historical figure] of the industry” Ken Kutaragi and his Playstation camp can exude the same powerful charisma as [Japanese Prime Minister] Junichirou Koizumi.

An industry insider remarked, “The outcome will depend on whether gamers support Sony executive Kutaragi in his firm belief that the evolution of the game console [hardware] will result in a bigger market for Sony.”

In the periodic management plan Sony released on the 22nd, Sony had the following to say about their high-tech creation, the PS3: “Our top priority is to bring innovation to the market by next spring.”

Most believe it will be a decisive victory [for Sony], with the catch phrase “Don’t stop evolution”, much like Junichirou Koizumi’s election victory with his catchphrase “Don’t stop reformation.” However, another industry insider confided, “This is nothing but a nightmare for many Japanese software development companies.”

One of the reasons for this nightmare is soaring development costs.

The industry insider went on to say, “Kutaragi has said, ‘Please develop suitable software for PS3 - this software must not be of the same standard as PS2 software.’ Developing software for the PS3 from scratch will require an initial investment of at least 2 billion yen [US $17.6 million] [not including development costs]. There are not many software companies that can easily afford that kind of money.”

The prevailing rumor is that many software companies with difficulty may end up developing for the Xbox 360 (to be released on 10 December 2005).

The previous interviewee also said, “Kutaragi is pursuing hardware evolution, and the credibility gap for him is now even worse than that of the GameCube era [when many developers defected from Nintendo].”

In fact, Microsoft is garnering support from many software developers and game creators in Japan. This kind of movement [spearheaded by Microsoft] is reminiscent of The Democratic Party of Japan’s general election catch phrase - “We will not give up on the Japanese market.” Indeed, one software developer slated to develop exclusively for Sony is now questioning whether this was the right decision.

One journalist, a veteran of the industry, observes, “The Xbox 360 is selling at 39795 yen [US $350], whereas the PS3 will probably be more expensive. To draw a comparison with PC operating systems, the Xbox 360 is like a low-cost and stable version of Windows, while the PS3 resembles a high quality Macintosh [operating system]. Considering the economic variance within the world market, we may find that console selection depends heavily on geographic location.”

In an aside about the Nintendo Revolution, the journalist remarked, “It will survive on the basis of its originality. I don’t know about [its prospects in] other countries, but it may win alone in Japan.”

Unlike Koizumi’s emphatic victory in the general election, opposition in the gaming industry is strong. Therefore, the future prospects for the battle of the next generation consoles look chaotic.

Who the Hell whats to play a Game Bigger than GTA anyways? Probally dont have a life.

Ok it's not about the size of GTA that people wana play it...well maybe a little but if the Blu Ray offers more space to put better images of gfxs and detail into the game it will be worth it. Think like this you have a Floopy disk that can only hold a high res JPG but you have a CD that can hold Video clips, HQ Images, Sound, and more. Then you have DVD's that can hold even more of that but if you have the next step to hold more then that it's even more stuff to add to the disc.

Way back when, people used to brag my computer has 200 mbs of HD Space and that was a lot but when they came out with the first gig HD it was awesome now we have terra drives and who whould have ever thought that we would need that much space? No one and most people never will but it's there if you need it. If you need that extra bit of room it's there, and when the games become more and more advanced it will need more and more room to add that extra stuff.

I don't know about everyone else but when FF 7 needed 4 disc to play on my PC I hated that. It was a big Pain in the Ass to keep up with that. It you look at the games back then to FF X+ it's amazing how much better they look on a larger format Disc. Just think of what can be done with a even larger size.

53 - THOSE ARE ONLY U.S FIGURES
Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.03.2005 13:53
These are U.S sales and marketshare figures, can someone predict the japanese and European countries figures? I'll have a go, X360 may manage to sell an extra oouple of thousand over in Japan, In Europe I dont see much change either, its only the U.S market, that will buy more into X360. Americans dont like change, they would rather stick with DVD, than go with a new Blu-Ray format, not only that, more Americans have high speed internet and PC's Xbox360 live will appeal to Americans more, PC nerd owners in America will find X360 a cheaper alternative to a PC upgrade. My thinking: anyone with a top end PC of today will get to play almost all games comeing to X360 because of XNA, PS3 offeres newer tech (Blu-ray, Cell processor) X360 only offers an updated Live service, I dont know many people who play games on-line, I dont like on-line games, if on-line games were so great how come M$ lost a ton of money with Xbox, they still dont make anything on the system today, a complete disaster. My next gen gameing will be done on PC and PS3, which is without a doubt the best combo for any hardcore gamer, leave velocity girl to the nerdy panzies.

no kidding I play most x-box games on my PC so why buy a new system just to play PC games. I can't play PS games on my pc unless they are also on x-box, so what's the point of having two computer systems if one is just for gaming when I can have a one in all.

The PS3 will offer what my PC can't and that's more games for me to Play.
I have enough DVD players at my house anyway why do I need another one? The PS3 will offer something new and if DVD decides to become the next VHS then I have my Nice Blu Ray Drive in my PS3. But if it doesn't and Blu Ray never takes off big I still have my 3 DVD players. 1(PC) 2(PS2) 3(DVD Player) why add another to the list when I can try something new?

55 - What is X-box Bring to the Table?
Unregistered - Yododaday 10.03.2005 14:39
Ok PS3 has the Blu Ray and the Cell, The Revolution has that wicked new Controller, and the X-box 360 has ________? Wait what new thing did the X-box bring? Or it this like Bill Gates "Windows ME"? This big hype about this new OS and it turns out to be a really bad Updated version of Crap. I mean what did they do add update to the X-Box?

Can I just buy the new Updates and make my X-box a 360 myself and save some money. Isn't it like a PC that you can just take out the Video card and memory and just put new ones? .......What you mean I can't? I have to buy a entire new system just to play updated games? Man Imagine how bad that would sux to play new PC games... Having to buy a new PC just to play updated games. Rather then just being able to upgrade.

So in other words the 360 isn't bring anything really new to us other then a few upgrades...... man that kinda seems cheap if you ask me. Atleast the others are trying something new and trying to please the fans better.

Oh wait a new X-box Live! Oh wait no....It's just updated too. Never mind.....

1- PC + PS3-------->you won't miss anything except some crappy xbox titles
2- PS3 + Revolution----------->which i'm going for. you have the best of console titles except some crappy xbox titles.

57 - good point there...
Unregistered - Dude 10.03.2005 18:11
Well, from my reading of the Ps3 and Xbox360, Xbox has only improvements but no new appendages to its system. Ps3 has the blu-ray disc, and such and such (mentioning everthing is a nuisiance to me) so really. PS3 has it for tech. But since the Ps3 is also recieving less support, whereas Xbox is gaining, economically, the xbox might win. But, on sales, its hard to produce a legitiment assumption. I think, Kutaragi lost his words for the system, he probably has nothing else much to surprise the crowd now. =/
And I would NOT TRUST Gamespot, I dont really care if they even say if its offical and all, I would just like to relieve myself when the Ps3 is released.
And its most strange if it IS official, $399 doesnt seem like what Kutaragi explains "most expensive" from previous remarks.
Maybe he found out how much a Ps3 is really worth... (<-Neutral statement)

Having loyalty to a company, like Sony, is as dumb as being a trusting German citizen during the 1930-40s. Think about let yourself experience new products instead of blindly following Sony because you used their products before. This is more prevalent with Nintendo outcasts.

Oh please, I was a long live Nintendo person until I grow up outta the blasted repetitive Mario and Pokemon games. And then I've touched some games of Xbox because my friend has one. And now, HE even agrees that the Ps2 was MUCH better then Xbox. So im sticking with Sony, the Ps3 sounds most reliable in the gaming world. Not to mention great titles released on it (or soon to be)- Devil May Cry 4, Vision Grand Tourisom, Grand Theft Auto 5 etc.

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND REALIZE THAT KEN DIDN'T CONFIRM MGS4 WASN'T PRE-RENDERED. Sony has always over promised, pre-rendered, and witheld information that would deny their pre-rendering. I bring up what Ken Kootchie didn't and said at the MGS4 trailer. Tell me why wouldn't the most anticipated game for the ps3 be confirmed that it wasn't pre-rendered? Just make consumers assume that it wasn't. The reason is to make ps3 enthusiats to go along like sheep not taking into account Sony's history. This is truly one of the most basic and manipulating marketing strategies. Ps3 withholds important information against pre-rendering to let consumers be none the wiser.

Does anyone else find it absurd that sony spent billions of dollars(or yen, if you prefer)on the development of the cell processor and the blu ray drive for their ps3? Sony will produce a mind-blowing system, without a doubt. However, Microsoft, using existing technology, has created a system that is about this much(---) inferior to sony's ps3. It will cost sony $495 to manufacture the new console(so i've read). Although it is well known that console manufacturers will take a loss initially, it seems to me that they made a bad decision with all that money into a marginally superior system. A BD disc is said to hold over 50 GB(dual layer)of data; which is great but riddle me this: Halo for the xbox only took up 600 MB of disk space. How many of you think that sony will produce games even half the size of the BD disc? Which brings me to the point... i think they will kick themselves later for all this "superior technology".

I know I've said a million and one times the 360 is superior to the PS3, but recently I've done some studying on the 2 systems and it seems that the PS3 is better than the 360. Besides being technically superior in almost every way the PS3 also has a far larger customer base than does the 360 and only a moron would argue that. Also, if you realy take a good look at 360 game and Xbox games, you'll see that the 360 is not really nexgen, but instead an Xbox 1.5 of sorts. As of this weekend I have gotten a refund on my 360 preorder and am patiently waiting for PS3 preorders to start. I'm strongly advising you, the Xbox 360 is not what you think it will be. Cancel your orders if possible.
