Since TGS many have been wondering why Sony didn’t have any playable demos of any upcoming PS3 games, as Ken Kutarag earlier had hinted that there would. A Sony Computer Entertainment executive has now gone on record to explain why there were no playable PS3 games at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
Speaking to Famitsu magazine, Masatsuka Saeki said that Sony could have presented playable demos if wished. However, the decision was taken to use video footage only since TGS marked the first time the PS3 was being shown on Japanese soil.
He went on to explain that Sony wanted consumers to feel the same level of impact that those in the industry experienced on seeing the PS3 trailers at E3. Saeki did concede, however, that allowing visitors to actually play the games would have created more of a buzz.
He also revealed that Metal Gear Solid 4 footage was added to the trailer line-up at the last minute - Sony had originally planned to present a video similar to that seen at E3, showcasing mainly European titles. The MGS4 footage was added to the reel after it was received by SCE in late August. Unregistered - The Godfather 09.29.2005 09:50 Well I think that Sony is actually going to wait till next year so they can show of a game or a few weeks after the 360 launch. So they can make sure that the guys planning to buy a ps3 still have their money in their pockets. But Sony should soon show a demonstration because not everyone is patient. Unregistered - Mickus 09.29.2005 09:53 I beleive the next PS3 showing is at the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in January. Let's hope for some solid facts about pricing, schedules and the performance of the machine. Unregistered - Coward 09.29.2005 12:51 if sony dont show any playable demo's before the 360 launch those people who where hanging on for PS3 will have already bought the 360, so they best get a move on. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.29.2005 12:56 "The MGS4 footage was added to the reel after it was received by SCE in late August" didnt they state that kojima was playing this game on a dev kit? Vivicious 09.29.2005 13:30 The excuse seems a bit weak, but I guess they know what they're doing. And boy am I glad they snuck MGS 4 in there at the last second. ;-) Boy, I must say that even though the amount of tangible info on games for PS 3 is almost non exsistant, I still am really looking forward to getting my hands on Sony's new console. So far games like Oblivion, PGR 3, Kameo, Blue Dragon, etc. have been really getting me stoked for X360, but some games for PS3 like MGS, DMC, Assassin and Warhawk are really prickling my interest :-D Unregistered - Cannabis Indica 09.29.2005 13:38 for starters the controller for the ps3 is sick with it boomerang style lol a joke but i dont doubt the ps3 obvious 360 supporter! but the reason for sony resleasing prerendered and 360 in game is the fact that the 360 has been built the ps3 hasnt yet. i personally am going with the company that does it for a living if they can promise next generation games with the same stuff as the other guys but not be too expensive like the ps3 is supposed to be then hell ya my perseption may be fuzzy from a few partakings but the truth is this it will be out first and the graphics chip sony chose is already out so to speak im going with proven tech not something that could fuck up down the road and remember when the ps2 was supposed to do all this stuff and look more broken promises Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.29.2005 13:45 are the developers over at scea columbia (i think it columbia) gonna be making a new god of war title or something simular cus i really enjoyed that game only problem with it was too short (sorry for going of topic)thank you Unregistered - True hell 09.29.2005 13:49 Commentary on the various pricing issues for the PS3 - it could get very tricky for Sony! "With Microsoft announcing its worldwide pricing scheme for the Xbox 360, the onus is now on Sony Computer Entertainment to decide how much its PlayStation 3 will cost consumers. However, SCE also needs to assure third-party publishers that its next-gen console will be affordable for a wide enough audience to ensure PS3 games will be profitable to make. Recently, Koei CEO Keiko Erikawa commented that her company would consider shifting to another platform if PS3 development proves too expensive. This is despite the fact the company is currently a big supporter of the PS3, announcing two new games at the 2005 Tokyo Game Show alone. In an interview published in the latest issue of Famitsu, SCE executive Masatsuka Saeki emphasized that the pricing of the PS3 remains a vital--and difficult--issue for Sony. He confirmed that the company has not yet decided on a price, saying that it will be the subject of debate until the last possible minute. When asked why there were no playable PS3 games at the 2005 Tokyo Game Show, as previously promised by SCE president Ken Kutaragi, Saeki revealed that there was a long discussion inside Sony before the show opened. While many executives argued that it would be good for the public to play demos, eventually the decision was made to only show E3-style trailers, as it was the first time the PS3 was being shown publicly in Japan. When asked if there would be any changes to the February PS3 event where playable demos will be on hand, Saeki did not respond directly. However, he did say that SCE is planning something for the event that is sure to be a "major" surprise." Maleficus the Great 09.29.2005 13:51 It's good to see you back, Vivicious. I haven't seen any comments on this site from you for a while, and since you have always had the most reasonable and intelligent comments, I was worried you wouldn't come back from the Xbox affiliate site. I figured you had gotten sick of all the fanboy squabble and had left for good. It is good to have you back. I also think it is a weak excuse for not having playable games at the TGS, but I think once PS3 games do become playable, people will be blown away. Sony has a good pedigree. The PS and PS2 were excellent consoles, and I have full confidence that the PS3 is going to be equally great. I am really looking forward to MGS4, Final Fantasy, DMC, and Killzone on the PS3 and Halo 3 and Fable 2 on the 360. Each news i see about sony´s delays of playable demos, i´m more certain that ps3 won´t be that much of x360. Instead, is a sheep disguised as a wolf. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.29.2005 14:21 hello nº11, i think u got some things wrong in those specs. in the cpu, ps3 has 7 SPE´s.but jezzz is not 3.2ghz each. The Cell's seven DSPs (what Sony calls SPEs) have no cache, no direct access to memory, no branch predictor, and a different instruction set from the PS3's main CPU. They are not designed for or efficient at general purpose computing. DSPs are not appropriate for game programming.Xbox 360 has three general purpose CPU cores. The Cell processor has only one. Jeezz i´m not spending my words in you, check your sources better... Maleficus the Great 09.29.2005 14:25 There is a perfectly good reason why there is less material availabe for PS3 than for the 360, #12. It's because the 360 is coming out no less than six months before the PS3, and therefore understandably has much more to show. Did the 360 have playable demos nine months before it was going to come out? Of course not. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.29.2005 14:57 One thing i´m for sure...I have a really good pc and i´m an addicted in making hardware upgrades and the next-gen games that i really want is coming for pc too.But i think it will be the exclusives who will make the console win. Unregistered - Punk Street 09.29.2005 17:57 This is going to be striaght and simple Sony needs to bring out the great graphics for the console to compete, plus they have to update all their electricl products which was stated in a earlier article. If Sony had any playable demos that were worth anything they would have done so. All this talk about how it wasn't the right time, blah, blah, blah, is just an evasive way of saying that they don't have the goods. Hell, they hardly showed any video and they are only six months or so from launch. The best way to stop Microsoft is to show your stuff, if you have it, and how superiour it is. IF all this hardware is as amazing as it is supposed to be than even their games that are still early in development would rock the 360. Where is it? To me the bottom line is that Sony seems to have made some poor choices and are having to scramble to get their act together in enough time to minimize the damage they will take to their fan consumer base in the next 5 years. I hear all this talk about how MS is rushing their console, this however is only due to them releasing earlier than Sony. Sony is actually late, like 2 years late. They were supposed to release in 2004 but pushed it back to 2005 and now 2006. What can we conclude other than they are having problems with the cell processor, Blue Ray or both. In light of MS and Intel's recent anouncement regarding the current problems with Blue Ray this at least seems possible if not probable. So, to add insult to injury it appears that Sony's game development schedule has fallen behind just like the rest of their program. By the way I think that Sony will regret, if they haven't already, the use of the Cell in their game console. I think that the roles for this next gen. are being reversed and that Sony will be the one to loose extremely large amounts of money on their console while microsoft will be in the black, at least much earlier than Sony. This will be because it appears that we are going to get a powerful yet severely overpriced product, at least for what it will be able to do. Note, I am not passing judgement on who will be the most powerful, maybe the PS3 will be, but even if they are the most powerful, the performance will most likely be considerably under powered for what we will probably pay for the system. By the way, I can can feel the heat from you fanboys flames already. Unregistered - PS3 Fan 09.30.2005 06:09 What you said is completely nonsense. come on man, your precious microsoft isn't even able to make a decent OS or web browser. what the heck are you talking about? sony has been in this market years before microsoft and you say they can't make the PS3 a success?! if the PS3 isn't that good then why MS is rushing their console? they are afraid! they need this headstart because sony will destroy them if they start in 2006. ofcourse 360 is impressive but only until the competitor doesn't show up. by the way MGS4 was realtime in case you didn't know. just wait and you will see what a monster PS3 will be. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.30.2005 07:41 Sony's balancing act is becoming more and more interesting to watch by the day. Forced into revealing its next-generation hand far earlier than it would have liked by Microsoft's rush to get the Xbox 360 out while the Xbox is dumped unceremoniously into an early grave, much like a protesting elderly relative being dragged in the night from a nursing home and off to his fate, Sony now finds itself in the awkward position of trying to showcase the power of PlayStation 3, while making sure nobody loses interest in PSP or PS2. The Tokyo Games Show was a good example of this delicate tightrope walking, with the PS3 being showcased in the form of video reels in a large open cinema, while the PS2 and PSP took pride of place on Sony's enormous demo pod area. However, an even more astonishing example comes from statements made by Sony exec Masatsuka Saeki speaking to Famitsu in the wake of the show. Saeki-san apparently felt the need to explain why Sony had broken Ken Kutaragi's promise to have playable PS3 titles on the show floor - saying that the reason was that while the firm could have put playable code out there if it wanted to, PS3 was being shown in Japan for the first time at TGS, so the company wanted consumers to feel the same impact that people who saw the trailer reel at E3 did. This is one of those circumstances where Sony might have been better off saying nothing, because any idiot can sniff that statement and tell that it doesn't smell of roses. "This is the first time we've shown PS3 in Japan" is not a reason to show off only the E3 videos and a few new ones, as any fool can tell. Statements like this sound defensive, and will immediately raise suspicions that the company is having trouble with PS3 development, that titles haven't progressed as far as Kutaragi-san might have wished or that the firm simply isn't happy with the quality of the titles as they stand, compared to the far closer to completion Xbox 360 games on the other side of the hall. In fact, the reality is far more mundane. Sony almost certainly does have playable code ready on PS3, and plenty of real-time PS3 demonstrations took place in private meeting rooms around the TGS venue in Makuhari - it's just that the company is absolutely desperate not to detract attention from the PS2 and PSP line-up for Christmas and beyond. Certainly, it would be tough for Saeki-san to say this in public, but Sony doesn't want the current generation to end right now. PS2 is a cash cow, and PSP is still getting established; focusing on next generation too quickly will destroy what the firm has built with those platforms, and we don't doubt that Microsoft's name is cursed daily in Sony's offices for trying to force the console giant's hand in this manner. There's a lesson here for the industry as a whole too, though; shortening the console cycle is a very dangerous business. Microsoft is keen to move to the next-gen faster than its rival, simply because it doesn't have so much to lose by dropping its existing platform and may have much to gain from moving first in the next platform battle - but ironically, if the company is too successful, the whole industry will suffer. Whether Microsoft likes it or not, the industry's publishers and developers need the PlayStation 2 to continue to be successful for their businesses to thrive - and launching the next generation into the consumer mindspace, at the same time forcing Sony into this tricky PR balancing act, threatens that entire hugely valuable ecosystem. If consumers lose interest in the current generation, it's not just Sony who'll lose out - every company in the industry will take the hit. Thankfully, though, Sony seems quite good at the balancing act - even if sometimes it can be a little too cautious. Saeki-san also dropped the bombshell that originally, Sony was considering just showing the E3 demo reel, and that the Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer was only added at the last minute - a lucky eleventh hour addition, since without it, PS3 might as well not have bothered showing its face at TGS. We're glad we're not in the position of the Sony exec who has to make the calls that prevent PS3 from eclipsing the existing, profitable business, while still standing up to Microsoft's Xbox 360 PR machine, but we're also amazed at how close the company apparently came to effectively ceding round two of the next-gen battle before it even began. Vivicious 09.30.2005 08:10 Thanks for the greetings Maleficus, it's good to be back. I'm also quite annoyed at the amount of childish abuse at the Xbox affiliate site, hopefully they'll do something about this in the near future at both sites (Though it seems to be a bit less of a flame war here at the moment.) Maybe I'll see if they need some help, a new Mod for example. Just a quick response to comments by #27, #28 and #29. First of all, Sony is most def. not late with their current console, as a 2006 release has been in the planning for quite a while, they had even made this clear at one point, thus maybe giving MS the incentive to release their console earlier. Secondly, MS rushing their console is an extreme overstatement, and would very doubtfully make the quality of their console suffer under this earlier release. Of course Microsoft wants their console out earlier. Because they're scared? That seems a bit harsh, though you're not far off. It's just the most logical thing to do, they know Sony has more name recognition (This does not stand for quality! I'm not going to stand here and say one console will be better than the other because we have no way of knowing this!) and Sony had the advantage of releasing their console quite a bit earlier the last time, thus they have learned from experience, though it should be common knowledge that the earlier release should bring quite a few benefits along with it. And finally, the Xbox being dumped unceremoniously into an early grave seems quite unfounded. I think you should look into Xbox's lineup from now until the launch, not to mention after the launch. I'm not going to lengthen this post considerably by giving lots of examples, just look for yourself at an xbox site. Think of Far Cry: Instincts, Half Life: 2, etc. (Our opinion on these games don't change the fact that the names themselves will make sure these will sell well, Instincts is actually quite a good game by the way.) and to give an example of how far the support will go after the release of X360: Splinter Cell 4 comes to mind, this game will also be an Xbox release. Your reasoning is also a bit extreme, most of the consumers that are still producing sales with the PS 2 for example, are in general not the people you should expect to buy a next-gen console near launch. Better yet: A release of the PS 3 (Keep in mind PS 2 will of course drop from now until then, though not much more than they are at the moment) might give reason to slightly increase PS 2 sales as well, as I am sure they will bargain out the current console for an even more attractive price. So threatening the whole console based economy by "forcing" Sony to reveal it's cards early is pretty unlikely. It's actually (in only this instance) quite a good idea of MS to shorten the lifespan of their last console, Sony knows they can't stay far behind, and current gen consoles will continue to sell no matter what, these kind of things can only speed to proces of dwindling sales, though I doubt in an alarmingly fashion. Vivicious 09.30.2005 08:13 "these kind of things can only speed to proces of dwindling sales, though I doubt in an alarmingly fashion. " What a mangled sentence: These kind of things can only speed up the proces of dwindling sales, though I doubt it would be at an alarming rate. That's better :-D Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.30.2005 10:02 I doubt if the quality 360 is questionable, seeing how it’s been development for what, 2 years? Which is only 2 years after the original Xbox, so clearly, Microsoft are rushing the console life cycle. Which ultimately, might be their down fall. As for Sony and the PS2, I thought the PS2 was the successor to the PS1 released some 5 years earlier – and not a machine to go up against another machine still in development and a year away from release? I do wish people would remember that. Of course games are still in development for the Xbox – why wouldn’t they? They all can’t end at the drop of a hat – or at announcement of Microsoft’s next generation console. Those games that have been started, will be finished and released through out 2006 after the arrival of the 360. As for beyond 2006, I suspect the releases to tail off – SIGNIFICANTLY. Which, from what I have read, may be the opposite of the Playstation brand. Some developers/publishers have already stated that they will not make the same mistake as last time – by jumping on the next generation console bandwagon and forsaking the current install base. Probably more so given the current PS2 install base of over 90 million. “And finally, the Xbox being dumped unceremoniously into an early grave seems quite unfounded” Why? If you had a product that leached $4 billion in 4 years – wouldn’t you do something about it? Clearly Microsoft looked at the options and decided to bin the console and start again. Period. Vivicious 09.30.2005 11:23 #32: Get your facts straight please, if you're going to argue a point. The Xbox360 has been in development for between 3-4 years now, which would only point out their skill in the matter. Unless you think a company like Sony or MS would actually come out with a defected and/or unfinished CONSOLE, then you really have no faith in gaming in general. Also, Xbox came in late, but stil belongs to the same generation as PS 2 and GC, I so wish people would remember THAT. You're just stating a reason why the Xbox would have superior specs, that's it. "Start again" is ridiculous by the way, as that money they lost has now been invested in their future console. I don't understand your "Of course the games are still in development" comment as I was only responding to someone else....Anyway, unless you have proof the developers will suddenly decide to do otherwise than during 2006 (Splinter Cell 4: Summer 2006 or beyond, that was only one example.) releasing multiplatform (Xbox/X360) titles, as well as some exclusive Xbox titles, then your comment is pretty useless here. Speculating is one thing, but you're trying to back a comment that disagrees with mine (which, in this case, is common knowledge) with thin air. "If you had a product that leached $4 billion in 4 years – wouldn’t you do something about it? Clearly Microsoft looked at the options and decided to bin the console and start again. Period." Like I said, please get your facts straight, by your logic: Microsoft has started making a profit on the Xbox, yet want to get rid of the Xbox? Please...Microsoft has lost that much money not only because of minor incompetence on the console market, but also because they have "bought" themselves a position right under Sony with their first console. The Xbox is still to come out with some name recognition games that will probably sell a whole lot, and during the next-gen alot of people will still be looking for bargain consoles for their kids and the like, if you think MS has given up on the Xbox you're insane, or not very well informed. Releasing the X360 this far ahead of the PS3 is the smartest thing they've done so far, stop acting so biased and look at the facts and marketing strategies of comapanies that have put thousands of resputable and honerable companies out of business. :P Unregistered - Truth 09.30.2005 11:50 Usually Vivicious I respect your comments, but you saying the XBOX has started turning a profit is totally unfounded. As it stands... all of the numbers I've seen thus far have had Microsoft at nothing but a loss since it's release. Unless you can offer objective numbers from an unbiased source then the XBOX is nothing but Microsoft dumping a product into the market at a loss to goble up market shares. I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to build another monopoly quite frankly. To people saying all the PS3 has shown is CGI footage, look no further that the Sonic PS3 demo and MGS4 which have both been proven to be real time. Are they playable for the public? No. Does that irk me? Of course as I personally would love to see some playable footage, however that does not sway my beliefs that the PS3 will be able to meet and surpass what is being displayed in current CGI form. Look no further than the fabeled "PS2 E3 demos" that every XBOY seems to keep coming back to. Sony has met or exceeded all the videos they showed. And to all the people trying to take away from the Cell processor... please, do your damn homework. All I've seen thus far is tripe copy and pasted from various XBOX fansites. Getting kind of lame really. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.30.2005 13:35 It's well known that the hardware supply agreement for the components for the Xbox has given Microsoft little room for making a profit. As it stands, they have 'lost' $4 billion. However, what they have 'lost' they have gained in reputation. Steve Bulmer has already gone on record to say that Microsoft will take a hit in the short term, for long term profitability. Some say 'lost' others say 'invested'. To compete in a 3 horse race and come out 2nd is highly commendable, especially for a first time effort. Unregistered - Punk Street 09.30.2005 14:17 #23 Prey looks pretty good and original plus I'm not a Sony Fan Boy, why would I say an 360 game would look better than Halo 3, part 2 for Halo was a dissapointment and their are probably going to be better FPS than Halo. I know it was stupid to say that when their's no presentations of Halo 3, but you gotta admit it Prey does look pretty good. Vivicious 09.30.2005 14:19 The Xbox had started turning a profit, since January this year. They will probably be back in the red at the moment (E3/TGS X360 launch campaign), but this is due to outside agencies, meaning it shouldn't be very odd if they decide to keep supporting the Xbox. Main problem for Xbox was Japan, as they seemed to have really been working on that problem, we should expect a fine future for the X360 as well. Find sources shouldn't be that hard, here are a few: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=20987 http://www.ferrago.com/story/5075 "Of course, the Xbox will probably never make a true profit, but then Microsoft's aim was always to gain a foothold in the industry rather than reap instant rewards" So as I'm sure they're not making a profit at the moment, in 2006 they should be back up and running in the black at least ;-) By the way, I think we've spent enough time on this subject, as it is a PS3 site, it just started off with a pretty non significant comment on my part. Vivicious 09.30.2005 14:24 Ok, one more thing: "It's well known that the hardware supply agreement for the components for the Xbox has given Microsoft little room for making a profit" This is one of the things they've learned this time around. Especially: "Xbox 360: Only Authorized Third Party Accessories " things like that will help their income. Anyway, back to the topic: I expect Sony to show off some nice footage before the X360 release, so I think we'll be in for a treat in the coming months ;-) Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 09.30.2005 14:27 I never said that the PS3 will not be a success. I'm sure that it will be a success, if you define success as making money for Sony. My point was that they don't seem to have followed a very affordable development strategy. Unless they are lying to us, always a possibility or should a say probablity, though in this instance I don't think so, it seems that Sony is struggling to find a way to make the PS3 affordable. Additionally, it seems that though it has the ability to perfom incredibly well in certain areas, it is still difficult to tap that potential. The rumor mill is full of rumblings that many in the upper echalons of Sony would have followed a different console strategy than the one followed by Ken K. Thus my speculative comment regarding the probablity that they will have to price the console much lower than they would like and therefore loose more money in the early years of their console than MS. Please stop all the comments about how MS is rushing their console. If Sony was releasing this fall than would MS be rushing? No you would be silent on the matter. MS is actually right on schedule for the markets 5 year cycle, though 4 years for them. Sony and Nintendo are actually behind schedule. "they are afraid! they need this headstart because sony will destroy them if they start in 2006." What do you think all this is about, a duel of honor? It about making money for their respective companies. If Sony could they would be releasing this fall with MS, it has nothing to do being "afraid". And your comment regarding "my precious MS", and the weak OS's put out by MS are simply wrong. First I don't give a rip about MS, I give a rip about calling the shots as I see them on both sides of the fence. Second, the lack of excellent OS's has less to do with MS's ability and more to do with their monopoly on the industry and the fact that they don't need to do a better job. So let the logic follow. Sony is essentially the MS in the console gaming world and as such we have seen for the most part less than stellar games on the console, in my opinion. Their hardware in the last gen suffered as well. What you should be wishing for is that MS kicks the shit out of Sony this next generation with the result being that the chips fall fairly evenly on both sides with the happy ending being that we all end up with much better games that we saw in the last round of the war. As a side note, I actually play games on all 3 consoles so my desires have nothing to do with taking sides. Lastly, I don't give a crap about MGS4. I refuse to get excited about games based on what they look like. If I want viewing excitement I will go to a strip clup somewhere. Far Cry Instincts looks fantastic on xbox but the weapon controlls leave much to be desired. It is a good game but that's it, "good". Gameplay is what counts period. I feel trully sorry for you if you are impressed with a game you know nothing about. Lastly, this time for sure, sadly enough for Sony I really feel that MS is beginning to wrest control of the console market. When we look at the two companies what does Sony bring to the table other than what they brought with the PS1 and PS2? Nothing that MS won't. Don't bother mentioning Blue Ray. Due to recent announcements in the last couple of days HD DVD might be making a strong come back. I think that people underestimate how strong MS's live program will be this next gen. The potential in Japan alone is staggering. Sony might be king of hardware but that does not neccessarily tranlate into great experiences for consumers. It is the software that allows the hardware to perform and is what really delivers the experience, MS is on top of the game is this regard. I guess we will just have to watch and see how it all unfolds. No matter what happens we as consumers will win. It seems to me that MS is beginning to emerge as the leader though it will be interesting to see if/how Nintendo's controller effects the market. Unregistered - Punk Street 09.30.2005 16:02 I think the Ps3 and Xbox 360 are both the Gods for console gaming , If sega got back into the console thing they would do better than Nintendo. I wonder when Shenmue 3 will come out and I hope soon , I heard Max Payne 3 will be out for the Ps3 and Xbox 360. Unregistered - Punk Street 09.30.2005 16:07 I don't think theirs going to be a Leader this time around I think it's going to turn out evenly for the Ps3 and Xbox 360. As rumored and somewhat proven the console, controller, and cables/accessories will be around 400 dollars, no hard drive, no headset. Ok then we have it's counterpart from Micrsoft that includes all that ps3 does plus what I said it didn't. The hard drive that sony will not have is going to cost +80-100, and that's for the majority of serious and mediocre players. And as suspected the ps3 will have little difference in graphical improvement and general performance for their more expensive console. Sony online will be blown out of the water by xbox 360. I will admit an almost definate graphics superiority from sony but it is not worth the 100 more dollars. Also when sony is clearly beaten in other console areas. Also what kind of games could the ps3 offer americans but MGS4 and sports games. Before you choose which console make sure you weigh which games would be the best for you because the graphics difference will be almost unnoticable. PLEASE BEFORE BUYING TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT MAYBE YOU DIDN'T HITCH YOUR WAGON TO THE BEST COMPANY. Vivicious 10.01.2005 08:50 "As rumored and somewhat proven the console, controller, and cables/accessories will be around 400 dollars, no hard drive, no headset" .....No. Punk Street 10.01.2005 18:39 I'm not even going to start with you #51, Americans aren't the only people on the planet so save yourself the embarassment, Metal Gear solid and sports games aren't going to be the only games that developers are offering for the ps3, Plus Sony hasn't even announced what the price is so don't make false assumptions. Unregistered - Anonymous Coward 10.02.2005 08:45 what the hell?!! some of xbox's best games are japanese! doa-ninja gaiden-FF XI...., microsoft did everything they could to gain japanese support. and please don't lecture for us about xbox games, everybody knows that best and greatest library of games belongs to playstation. and about blu-ray: if microsoft had it, it was the best and greatest feature of xbox but now that they don't, it's not a big deal. yeah, yeah, what a logic! these consoles are supposed to live until 2011-2012. i'm sure that in 2010,even ordinary games (not big RPGs like oblivion) will require much more than 9 gig (or even 18 gig if you use two dual layer dvd-roms). certainly it will be a headache for xbox fans to change disks frequently in a driving or action game.by the way don't forget about the data streaming from optical drive to the system. blu-ray can stream much more data and this is a great advantage ps3 has over the xbox360. as i look into these consoles, i can say that ps3 is technically perfect plus sony traditionaly has and will have the best library of games. xbox360 is very good but has limitations (it's cpu, regular dvd-rom),microsoft could make it perfect like ps3 by releasing it later and put an hddvd-rom in it and making it's cpu stronger (quad core for example), making the hard drive standard. about revolution i think we must wait and see. Unregistered - KUK 10.02.2005 11:54 ROFLROFLROFL... the xbox fans are shitting their pants, X360 already stinks. you can see that it has flopped because the Xbots are looking for PS3 news. Like, does it MATTER who comes first or not? Does the PRICE depict the VALUE of one? Are all of you taking qunatity over quality?! I dont give a crap to which technology is better, although i'd like to agree that the blu-ray disc will have a good effect on ps3, so if you guys already LOVE that console, i think you'd like to stick with it. Though some of you ps3 fans comparing the statistics are already giving fans secondary thoughts. IF you are a TRUE fan to your system, keep your mouth shut, don't be bragging about THAT fucking system, and DONT INSULT THE OTHER ONE. ALl of you asses know that Final Fantasy made a name to the Playstation gaming, Halo is showing good potention for the Xbox, and hell even knows it that Pokemon is a long time savior to Nintendo. PAUL CERULA 10.04.2005 10:53 GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND REALIZE THAT KEN DIDN'T CONFIRM MGS4 WASN'T PRE-RENDERED. Sony has always over promised, pre-rendered, and witheld information that would deny their pre-rendering. I bring up what Ken Kootchie didn't and said at the MGS4 trailer. Tell me why wouldn't the most anticipated game for the ps3 be confirmed that it wasn't pre-rendered? Just make consumers assume that it wasn't. The reason is to make ps3 enthusiats to go along like sheep not taking into account Sony's history. This is truly one of the most basic and manipulating marketing strategies. Ps3 withholds important information against pre-rendering to let consumers be none the wiser. Unregistered - Svetlana 10.26.2005 15:47 Anti-Sony zealots are all up in arms about the lack of PS3 games appearing in playable form, but seven months before a console is due to be released and having playable games is a big ask. As far as I'm aware, the Xbox 360 didn't either. Maybe somebody can prove me wrong, but who cares. 'Silence is one of the hardest arguments to refute' as somebody once said and in Sony's instance, this certainly is true. Sony probably don't want to put playable games out for the world to see, especially if they turn out to be as disappointing and buggy as the Xbox 360 titles shown at E3. Sony's marketing strategists would be having multiple aneurisms at the thought. If Hideo Kojima can create something as awe inspiring as the Metal Gear Solid 4 teaser in such a short space of time, Sony has nothing to worry about. xxxxxx 10.31.2005 18:58 I know I've said a million and one times the 360 is superior to the PS3, but recently I've done some studying on the 2 systems and it seems that the PS3 is better than the 360. Besides being technically superior in almost every way the PS3 also has a far larger customer base than does the 360 and only a moron would argue that. Also, if you realy take a good look at 360 game and Xbox games, you'll see that the 360 is not really nexgen, but instead an Xbox 1.5 of sorts.
