According to the latest issue of PSM who has been in talks with Rockstar North, the next GTA game is going to look really good, thanks to a all new game engine especially developed for the for PS3.
Rockstar North is creating a specialized game engine for PS3 that will bring GTA 4 to life to a degree that the PS2 games could only hint at. Specifically, they're going to be using the high data transfer bandwidth of the Cell CPU, RSX GPU, and Blu-ray Disc to use several streams of game info simultaneously. The game's city- unfortunately yet to be even hinted at- will still be free roaming and seamless, but broken down into smaller, more detailed areas at the engine level, into which the game designers are going to be able to pour more textures, more object variety, and tons of details (such as discarded soda cans with their own physics), just for starters. The goal is a city that's less repetitive and where everything - and everyone- looks and acts more like they would in the real world on every level. Source: PSM Add Comment  1 -

Rockstar mention they are makeing an engine especialy for PS3, meaning there is no chance of an X360 version of the game. There has been no screens released for fight night X360, the pics you see online are of the PS3 version, taken from PS3's E3 show. if the game looks the same on both, then I can only say, EA are greedy Bstards, they always have been and this proves it further, instead of spending more time on the game, they are going to rush 2 titles (1 for X360 1 for PS3) both built from the ground up for each system and made to look the same, whether they use X360's or PS3's full capabilities or not. 23 -

Bill Gates didnt even imagine up Windows, a friend created it, Bill sold it for alot of money and then offered his friend a tiny bit for it, who not knowing he had already sold it, gladly sold it to Bill. Takes alot of imagination to con a friend. Let see, they also imagined the xbox and controller up, must be some big imaginations since they made both systems and controller way to bulky. Course they quickly reimagined the controller to a more acceptable size, I imagine do to the fact that people complained. Then they imagined up the current 360 controller which looks kind of third party and cheap with the white plastic and 2 tone look. Sony's may look like a boomerang but at least they imagained something different that looks like a quality piece of technology. As good of game as GTA is it is not one that anyone can look at and say they went the extra mile on. Just look at games like Madden 06, trash, Rainbow Six: Lockdown, trash again. The only reason I can think that they would spend extra time on this one is to combat the slew of copy cats that are coming out. I think Saint's Row is one of them. Oh and the fact that they are building it from the ground up is a good thing, but you have to figure with the ps3 blu ray and some of the stuff they have under its hood will need special attention to get the most of it, also sony designed its system so that developers cant make an easy port that was done stratigically. So when and if they do a GTA 4 for the 360 it will be something special because its based off of the 360's technology and not just a port. Its really a win, win situation. I'm playin GTA san andreas on my ps2 (and love it) but i dont wanna play the same shit on my 360 i want somethin new and exciting. A "specialized" game engine, means its being created especialy for PS3, to take advantage of the hardware, what dont you understand about that? its like Polyphony digital makeing its specialized engine, to run GT4 on PS2 or GT5 to run on PS3, the GT game engine wont work with other consoles, because EE + GS and VU's are different to a pentium 733 processor with an nVidia card found in Xbox, same as the Cell chip is far different to what X360 is useing and the graphics chips are different too.
