SEGA announced today that the highly anticipated arcade game, Virtua Fighter 5, will make its way onto the PLAYSTATION 3. This latest installment in the critically-acclaimed series will elevate the arcade fighting genre to all-new heights as it takes true advantage of the capabilities of the next-generation hardware. Game footage will be on display at the 2006 Entertainment Electronic Expo on May 10-12 in the SEGA booth (South Hall, Booth #946). Virtua Fighter 5 will deliver fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping action as players head into battle, taking on a host of popular characters. Players will not only achieve victory by defeating highly-skilled opponents, but will also compete for prizes and earn in-game money through the match to buy many items at an in-game shop. These items allow players to customize their ultimate warrior and become the top Virtua Fighter. In addition, the game will introduce "Offensive Move", a new maneuver that will allow players to easily approach opponents from the side, adding a more strategic element to the battle. The game will support 720p HD resolution. "Virtua Fighter 5 will offer fans the ultimate next-generation fighting game experience," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "For years, the industry has talked about bringing the arcade experience to the living room. Congratulation to all the 'WUXIA' fans that we're not only going to have Mortal Kombat : Armageddon at the year's end in the current-gen, but some hot and heavy Shaolin Fist and Drunkard Boxing experience in early 2007 as well. AAnd as gamespot has mentioned, the wrinkles on older fighter this time are not textures at all, but actual 3D bumps, as they also mention that the characters are not imports of the VF4 that used textures ! Wow, this comes as the first complete 'hands on' title for the PS3, and the quality and realistic fighting and GFX substance of the game really comes as a great markup for PS3's next-gen direction. Thankyou Sega, this was basically the finest I wanted from you !!! 7 -

Improved GFX !Bhai 05.08.2006 06:34 Gamespot mentions in the first look on the arcade version that its running on a PC pentium 4 3GHz architecture, with a nVIDIA GFX card, so with an improved GPU(RSX) and multiple SPEs on the 3.2 GHz CELL(better again), the graphics are only gonna improve if at all, and not to be watered down, so yeah, VF5 on PS3 is gonna ROCK !!! 11 -

The fact that Microsoft decided to LIMIT all 360 games to 720p is not an indication that the 360 is less powerful than the PS3 - but rather; it is an indication that Microsoft analyzed the situation better than Sony did! I am sorry people but I have a degree in Computer Science and I can assure you that the 360's Xenos GPU is actually far superior to the RSX in terms of being able to produce games in 1080p and the Cell's actual performance (while running the OS) is roughly equal to the 360's triple core CPU. The reason why Microsoft decided to cap things at the 720p limit is because they wanted to ensure that every single game on the 360 has a minimum of 4x anti-aliasing and to free up more power for better looking graphics! This move was actually a very smart move because of 3 primary market considerations: 1) The biggest enemy to graphics in the next-gen is resolution! - To this end, all PS3 games will have to output at 720p resolution in order for developers to even have a hope at matching second-generation 360 games - i.e. around the time of the PS3's launch. 2) 720p with a 4x+ level of anti-alaising looks far superior in big screen TV's than 1080p with no or lesser anti-aliasing! - If you compared the 360 version of Oblivion (at 720p) with the highest-end PC graphic's card (running at 1080p); it is easy to see that the 360 has far superior anti-aliasing! 3) 99.99% of all HD-TV's on the market today that claim to be able to display at 1080p cannot accept native 1080p signals! - In other words: lower progressive, or 1080i signals are up-scaled to 1080p. Sony's decision to not limit game output signals to 720p was at the cost of not guaranteeing a minimum level of anti-aliasing. This said, even at 720p the RSX will have a very difficult time matching Xenos-qaulity graphics anyways because (the best way to describe it is to say that) not only is the Xenos GPU a full generation ahead of the RSX and roughly 40% more efficiennt, ...but it's unique addition of D-RAM gives it an internal bandwidth of more than 256Gbps, and essentially "free 4x anti-aliasing" in the process. So perhaps Sony decided that they really had nothing to lose in terms of leaving all anti-aliasing and resolution based concerns up to the developers anyways because the truth is that they are going to need all of the flexibility that they can get in terms of TRYING to match the 360's graphical quality. Meanwhile, Sony was also able to use "1080p" as a marketing tool to try and convince it's user-base that the PS3 is significantly more powerful than the 360 - even though I can guarantee you that 99% of all PS3 games will be in 720p and may or may not have any anti-aliasing to speak of! This will be the first of many games to prove my point. VF5 in 720p? ...well duh, ...you didn't actually believe the 1080p speil did you? 16 -

The pc version looked a lot sharper and the backgrounds were more detailed. Yeah most games will be in 720 for now. But as developers get used to the hardware we might see more games in 1080p. As far as the tv's go, do you really think Sony would release a product that can display movies and games in 1080p knowing that there would be no tv's to support it. Remember, they make tv's too as well as countless other companies. 1080p tv's are relatively new so we will see better tv's in the future. You know the PS3 is gonna be out for 4 to 5 years right. It's funny how people hate when new technology comes out that's better than the old stuff. If that's case, just play your games on a regular tv and call it a day. Even untold legends will look better than Halo3 and Too Human plus Mass effect and Blue Dragon will be announced for PS3 and it will be priced at 349.99 fifty bucks cheaper than 360! It's funny how Xbox fanboys come on this site and claim every game picture for PS3 is CG. I mean, is the 360 only capable of good graphics even though it came out last November? I don't get it. Metal Gear, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Assassins, are games that you can tell are real time. It's also known that the PS3 can handle anything the Unreal engine can throw out. How many games are using this engine coming out for the 360 and PS3. But when it comes to the PS3, everything is fake or CG. The only games I have doubts about being real are Killzone and Motorstorm. But I don't care because all the games I mentioned look amazing. I have a 360 and I love but I will be stupid to sit here and say the PS3 can't do the same thing the 360 does or better. It just doesn't make since that Xbox fanboys think that they can only have the good graphics. I guess it's hard to get past the power differences between the current gen systems. It's a different ball game this time. And if Sony's online plans are even close to M$'s, then what advantage do they have. Oh, I forgot Halo. Nothing can beat that game. 32 -

DarkLegacy 05.08.2006 18:12 #32. IN A WAY <-- Note what I said, he is correct. You can consider the RSX GPU a stronger version of the current Market 7900GTX (256MB). With the way Nvidia operates, you can consider it a 7950GTX. The ATI GPU was completly built from the ground up for the Xbox 360. It has no relation whatsoever with current ATI GPU solutions on the PC Market therfore, it simply works differently. Unlike the Nvidia GPU solution provided in the PS3 & current cards on the market, the ATI GPU has the ablity to do HDR + AA simutainlously & effieciently without the sacrafice of performance. It "IS" possible for Nvidia GPU's to do it, however, it is done a premature way through the Shader Models. In turn, the performance takes a HUGE hit & the end result doesn't look as good as what an ATI GPU can accomplish. You can consider the RSX an Intel CPU. ALOT of power & specs that favor it but not very well built with the need of a console in mind. The ATI can be consider an AMD CPU. Not nearly as powerful, but the architecture is built alot better which gives it a overall performance edge. Gears of War will be the very first game to show how well the two can work together when done correctly. Tomb Raider Legends does HDR + AA, but the 3D engine used for the game looked dated. 37 -
#32 and #36 RSX finished 2 months agoUnregistered - nirwanda 05.08.2006 18:48 according to sony and nvidea and sn system the rsx was finished 2 months ago it had to be because sony planed to launch in spring read edge pg118 interview at sony devstation 06 developers are now onto their 7th dev kit and all of them have had cell chips in them not the pc's some people will have you beleave, also the RSX is closer to the 7600 like the 7600 as it only has an 128bit bus rather than a 256 bit one like the 7800 and the 7900 and the 360's xenos chip but like the 360's xenos chip it links directly to the cpu(cell)so it can use the cell as well so you carn't really compare it to a standard nvidea chip but has to do it though the 128bit bus which halfs the amount of data carried and it only has half the pipes that the 360 has 48(360) to 24(ps3) anyway VF5 look's good to me if a little bit JAGGY these are the ps3 screenshot sega have said so see them at full rez here http://www.playsyde.com/news_2883_en.html 38 -
