IGN has posted the first info and screens of the next-gen version of THQ's WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2007; which is coming out for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
[ "We are excited about the next groundbreaking release in the multimillion dollar SmackDown vs. RAW franchise," said Nelo Lucich, vice president of interactive, JAKKS Pacific. "WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2007 combines ambitious, exciting features, such as the interactive fighting area within the crowd and a brand new analog control grappling system, which enhance the WWE videogame experience. We are confident this debut will offer a compelling sports entertainment experience for the next generation of gamers."
So what's this about a new analog control system and interactive crowd fighting? Specific details about those features are still a little vague, but we do know that gamers will be able to take their brawls into the audience just like on WWE programming, while also experiencing what THQ is calling "more realistic fighting" and "more intuitive movement." As stated earlier, though, what that means exactly we don't know.
What we do know, however, is that a number of improvements in other areas will certainly make the cut. Season Mode, for example, is said to feature "an unprecedented level of player choice" compared to previous games, while in-ring and outside-the-ring hotspots (which can be used to inflict bodily damage in special ways) have also been included. Moreover, arenas in SVR2K7 will be fully interactive to the point of supporting unspecified environmental damage and players will have the ability to take signs and other objects from fans and use them as weapons.
Speaking of weapons, there will be plenty of those too (more than in the last game) and brand new "High Impact Combination Moves" that round out each superstar's arsenal. Further enhancements, like an expanded General Manager mode, online play with voice chat support (finally!), high-definition displays for PS3 and 360, and updated rosters will also be included. Multiplayer fans should also be happy to note that up to six players will be able to wrestle each other at once for all three console iterations. It will probably come out first on PS3 as WWE games have a tendency to show up Sept. and Oct., meaning the PS3 version could be a port. Again no suprise that Smackdown vs Raw ends up on X360. No, not because its better than previous xbox wrestling games (even though it is I like that Wrestlemanina 21 engine though), but because YUKES finally made a japanese wrestling game on X360. As with all "successful" THQ wrestling games...they take the current Yukes (was Aki on N64) japanese wrestling game engine modify it..change the character models add new modes and then release it as a WWE game. I just hope that the game isn't as "robotic" as the past smackdown vs raw games. 11 -

When you thought they were PS3 screens your squealed with joy, now that your finding out their X360 screens they suck? WTF? Fanaticism at its ugliest. FACT: Screens are X360 screens and a PS2 would meltdown attempting to produce in-game visuals at this quality...even in this early stage of development. FACT: If the game releases before November then it will be a PORT on PS3 meaning that it will look the same on both consoles. It could (technically) be called a port anyway because it's using X360's Wrestle Kingdom's engine(yukes the same company who has made all the previous smackdown games on ps1 and ps2 made this game as well). Even if Yukes does a japanese ps3 wrestling launch title it will use the Wrestle Kingdom engine. The only reason smackdown vs raw has not appeared on an xbox console is because Yukes has never made a japanese wrestling game for an xbox console until now. Don't believe me, look it up. THQ has never made a wrestling engine themselves they just publish them. When EA licensed Aki's engine you got the Def Jam Vendetta Franchise, THQ stuck with yukes. If yukes would have made a japanese wrestling game for Xbox then smackdown vs raw or another game with the same engine..would have appeared on xbox a long time ago, much like the Day of Reckoning/Wrestlemania games on the gamecube. Bottomline...its a great looking next-gen game now that will look sensational on both console once its actually finished. How this became a PS3 vs. X360 discussion baffles me because contrary to what many fanboy's seem to believe sony did not make Smackdown vs. Raw or any of the other wrestling games. You want to chew on sony's jockstrap then talk about 1st and second party games they did make like God of War and/or Shadow of Colossus. The first footage of PS3 games on beta kits shown to the media at GDC does not back your statement up. The games shown do not look any better than X360 games at the same stage of development, all media sources claim the look the same or not as good. These are just beta kits but at this stage in development I don't see the games graphics improving much. Lets be honest with ourselves for a moment...PS3 is not 2 times more powerful than X360, most developers say the difference is minimal. These delusionary fanboy rantings must cease on both ends of the spectrum. There are things X360 does better than PS3 (theoretically) as well as things PS3 does better than X360 (theoretically). I say theoretically because there still isn't a workin PS3 console on beta kits which show a very underwhelming PS3. As for your revolution comment...hardware speakin its "apparently" equal to the current Xbox in specs. You can argue specs until your blue in the face...what really matters is the games. Great games is what this is all about. Sony has good exclusives, Msoft has good exclusives and of course Nintendo has good exclusives. I expect to see much more multi-platform games this gen. I do not watch the stuff they do on television. I use to the year after a popular wrestler died by falling just before they started the WWF Smackdown games. The WWF/WWE Smackdown series has made a so-called tradition-like career at being an official lauched title for the Sony's Playstation consoles. I am a little disappointed of it being launched multiple platforms. One reason is because all the creators are trying to make all of them as similar as possible, instead of trying to do as much work as they can to improve the Playstation version. Afterall, the creators and developers have made their decisions and I will support that as much as possible as long as they personally believe that they are doing their best to come out with an outstanding product. Of course, I hope they put Eddie Guerrero as a Legendary Superstar in his memory on WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 for the great human being that he was. I wish that I could talk to THQ Yukes and the WWE about them going back and looking at their past accomplishments on the past WWF/WWE Smackdown series titles. WWF/WWE Smackdown: Know Your Role had features on it that are not on any other title, WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain had the best all-around features of any other title until WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2006. I like what they tried to do with WWE Smackdown vs. Raw, they needed however to wait one more year in my opinion on trying to put the game online. However, where I am getting with this statement is that if in fact WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 was a launch title for the Sony's Playstation 3, it was made very carefully. My brand new copy of WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It froze a lot and it was the only game I owned for the Playstation 2 console until I bought WWF Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth. The WWF/WWE Smackdown series games are the only reason I bought a Playstation 2 at first. It will be the similar situation with the Playstation 3. Now, I guess I better really start saving money, oh wait, I bought my XBOX 360 with all store credit and sold it for $500 cash to buy the Playstation 3 console. I have already fully pre-paid for WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 eventhough the store had it labeled as a Playstation 2 title. The problem with Z and color compression is that the compression breaks down quickly when rendering complex next-generation 3D scenes. HDR, alpha-blending, and anti-aliasing require even more memory bandwidth. This is why Xbox 360 has 256 GB/s bandwidth reserved just for the frame buffer.
