By year's end, Electronic Arts plans to release 26 new games, all but one of them a sequel. The company also relies heavily on creating games based on movies like the James Bond and Lord of the Rings series, rather than developing original brands. Sequels are much cheaper to develop than original titles and especially sports games which account for about 30 percent of EA’s revenue. People are now getting tired of spending $50 each year to get an update of a title they already have. And we here at PS3 Today couldn’t agree more! "I'm not willing to jump along and buy a new one each time," said Mr. Perry, who works in sales for a newspaper in San Antonio. "I'm not going to fall prey to that." His complaint underscores a potential problem for Electronic Arts, which has suffered financial setbacks this year. Increasingly, industry analysts and game reviewers are wondering if the company's dependence on sequels is a sign that it is losing its creative edge. EA is based on adding a tiny new feature, and ripping off the masses. I buy every other sequal to a game I like, when it's from EA, because usually, it's going to be very similar to the previous one Unregistered - andy 09.14.2005 01:54 Isn't the stuff that EA bring out getting stale. Even the Medal of Honour series is getting boring, well I've got a couple of ideas. 1. Escape from New York - 3rd person action/adventure with original movie voices including Kurt Russell and Issac Hayes. 2. more beat-em ups like the soon to be released "The Warriors" by rockstar. 3. ZOMBIES everyone loves zombies. Unregistered - Troy 11.16.2005 08:04 EA has a habit of delivering poor quality games that sell due to massive advertising campagins. Fifa Street was one example. Overall EA is losing out big time. Their most popular franchises such as Fifa and NBA are getting more and more average by the day. If EA did not release any games then the PS3 woud be better. (RIP EA please!) Add Comment |
