And reports are just in that hell has frozen over...As unlikely as it may seem, Sony and Microsoft could very well be developing games together in the future. According to Tetsuhiko Yasuda, Sony Computer Entertainment Asia’s corporate executive managing director and senior vice president of Asia, Sony does not regard Xbox as a competitor. Rather, the company may even consider working with Microsoft to develop games together, Yasuda said.
However judging from the article at DigitTimes, one of the leading Asian websites for Tech news who spoke to Tetsuhiko Yasuda, it is still a bit unclear if Yasuda was referring to the Asian market only when he made the comment. Either way I think the much too common view that Sony and Microsoft are these to giants that hate each other’s guts and will only settle for world domination is a bit skewed to say the least. In fact there seems to be a lot of respect and admiration between the two companies. There is room for more than one player in the console marketed, and both companies seem to agree on that. Again, we all know how easy it is to take a comment out of context, so how concrete these plans for a joint game project between Sony and Microsoft really are is impossible to tell. Sony won't be paying them this fiscal year (Which ends in April) thus they will be starting production in May. First of all, the cell processor doesn't even exist yet and all of the PS3 trailers (excluding a few) were all COMPUTER GENERATED. Yes, even the Killzone 2 vid was CGI. It's not based on facts, is too much biased and is full of lies (actually that guy is an MS employee). The most ridiculous part is the memory bandwidth part. You can't add the bandwidth of internal GPU EDRAM to other parts bandwidth. Cell is not bad at general processing at all, you can see the article "Cell Architecture Explained ver.2" on the net. RSX isn't unveiled yet and you can't compare it with 360 GPU yet. An MS employee says X360 is better..so what? Is that a surprise to you? 39 -

Any who adds the EDRAM to GPU bandwidth has no idea how it works. Fact is the 10 MB EDRAM can only use 256GB/s internally and also only for the tasks it's specialised for like z and stencil operations, color and alpha processing and anti aliasing. When it comes to tasks between EDRAM and GPU the bandwidth is only 32GB/sec, the EDRAM is even unable to assist with simple texturing. Again like the CPU and GPU, the PS3 bandwidth outperforms the 360 bandwidth easily. But hey if you wanna add although it doesn't makes sense I can play this game with you ;-) I have to add then the 48GB/s to 204.8 GB/s Cell EIB and 76.8 GB/s Cell FlexIO Bus. This makes 329,6GB/s and is again more than what xflop has to offer - 278.4 GB/s. "Keep in mind that Sony has a track record of over promising and under delivering on technical performance." You should know most of this are just rumours that were never stated by Sony. In fact Sony always delivered in the past => GT3, MGS2 demos prior to the PS2 launch. PS3 is in every aspect way more powerful than 360 if properly coded. I'll make now a prediction: 1st gen PS3 games will look like 360 2nd gen games. This means PS3 launch games will look like 360 games at that time, but of course not all, some will look worse. 2nd gen PS3 games will look better than 360 3rd gen games. Of course not all, some will look same. 3rd gen PS3 games will look way better than 360 4th or any past 4th gen games. Just because X360 has unified shaders, doesb't mean its the best thing since sliced bread. 48 unified pixel pipelines which can be used more heavily toward vertex shading, or more heavily used toward pixel shading, means jack sh*t. X360 cannot beat PS3 on pixel shading, which is the same area where Xbox couldn't beat PS2 on the amount of pixels both machines produced, hence the rain effect in MGS2's hanger level, could NOT be redone to the same spec as PS2 as it didn't have the same amount of pixel rendering PS2 had. Vertices are only triangles, like a mesh or wireframe, pixels or more important than the number of triangles created. 100 -

Unregistered - kolopy 02.19.2006 22:45 sony fanboys running scared, i cant wait to see all your faces when you finally see the REAL PS3 games LOL. here's how it is the gfx will be the same as "XFLOP 1.5" twice the price and a year later, too many devs have said this about the gfx it's not even funny anymore, how you chimps fight for every last piece of PS3 info, one thing PS3 has over 360 is the storage of BLU-RAY, but hell i dont mind swapping out discs once in a while, if it saves me ca$h im happy. Sony buys windows OS from Microsoft for the vaio laptops because sony is one of Apples' competitors (or are they?). So sony is relying on the success of the windows OS and thus Microsoft. I hate to dissapoint you Microsoft bashers but the 360 will in no way, shape or form go away even IF the ps3 if more capable (which i doubt). As a matter of fact it wouldnt surprise me if the ps3 never launched. On the subject of aesthetics, the 360 looks like a sexy curvy compact pc. It is more symetrical than the ps3 (espacially when in vertical position)and more interesting than the revolution. in conclusion i'd like to say this: "LONG LIVE SONY AND DEATH TO PS3" (yes i said ps3) 110 -
dcm 02.20.2006 12:54 sony and micro are both cool in there own ways but i like sony the ps2 might not have had the power xbox had but it had better games and much more supporters and dont forget the 100 million consoles sold. i think sony will still dominate i dont think microsoft can get that many consoles out. 111 -
