Next Generation, a respected website dedicated to game industry news, has reveal that Sony is planning to launch an online games service, largely modelled on Xbox Live, currently called PlayStation HUB. The same report also suggests Sony is aiming for a September launch for the PS3 in Japan and North America.
[According to well-placed industry sources, PlayStation HUB will offer PlayStation 3 owners much the same services as Xbox Live, including chat, downloadable demos, independent games and online play. It's a departure from PlayStation 2's online strategy, widely regarded as vastly inferior to Microsoft's.
PlayStation HUB is being described to developers as a 'subscriber service' suggesting a monthly charge. We understand the service is being created by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, although this is unconfirmed.
September launch
Developer sources are also suggesting that PlayStation 3 is currently scheduled to launch in September. A launch games release schedule seen by our sources states a September launch. Although the schedule does not explicitly state a hardware launch date, nor a launch territory, we understand Japan and U.S will both see the machine in September.
Some in the industry have taken this as a lead to speculate that September 16 would be a launch date in Japan (a Saturday before a national holiday) followed by September 21 in the U.S. These dates are not confirmed.] Though nothing is official yet, Next Generation is a highly respected news site and I doubt they would publish this info unless their source was reliable. When games have updates and machine updates you can download them also downloading demo's is awsome. You get to play a demo before you decide to buy the game..The demo's on the 360 are free! Also I think Sony will have the Arcade too and thats not next gen games but it is fun to play some of the games you played a long time ago! I know this isn't going to happen but it would be awsome for the games being released on both systems if we could play together meaning PS3 and 360 gamers can play online together that would be awsome! #2 for 50$ or whatever you can't go wrong buying it. 4 -

I can buy a game for this price. All this stuff I get on PC since I have internet for free and before this service the console games were much more bugfree than on PC. With this new service this will probably change now, as the publishers will rush the games knowing they can still make it better. 8 -

They just can't slap it on like cod2 did with their online. (yeah i made fun of a 360 game just there) It took MS 3-4 years to develop xbox live, MS known for programming. How long do you think it would take Sony to develop their "HUB", Sony is known for top end hardware but mediocre programming. Please.... You can't match a 512mb card. Just put a better card in. And for the cell processor...yeah it might be able to do a lot but will bottle neck out of the one exit and defeating the purpose. ps I hope they use a better disk drive than ps2. HUB hasn't been in development 6 months, it has been developed since PS2 came out, don't be so gullible and believe everything on PSM. This came out on PSM, but also was confirmed by developers, and by "next-gen". Now, I don't think "Next-gen", which is a very reliable source, so reliable that many industry big shots get their bulletin, would be faking it. Certainly there will be PS3 versions of these games but they haven't announced it yet because of uncertainty over PS3 launch date. 2- PS3 has 512 MB of RAM NOT 256 MB and both Cell and RSX have access to all 512 MB of RAM. 3- Only John Carmack has said he prefers 360 development not all devs. PS3 development maybe harder but this will change.
