Sony Pictures announced today that catalog Blu-ray Disc titles will sell for $17.95, about the same as DVD movies when they hit the market in 1997. New theatrical Blu-ray Disc movies will sell for $23.45.
Sony also announced today DVD-UMD bundles that will eventually transform into Blu-ray Disc-UMD bundles. Starting March 28, consumers can buy DVD-UMD combo packs of The Grudge, Resident Evil, Underworld, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Terminator. Each combo is priced at $28.95, a few dollars more than Sony typically charges for a new DVD. Sony typically charges $24.96-$26.96 for new DVD releases, while titles new to UMD generally list for $19.95. "With the launch of Blu-ray, we're going to try to introduce the managed-copy concept, where if you buy Blu-ray you'll be able to get additional versions (of the same title) to use in your home," Feingold said. "Ultimately, we might even get to the point where we'll offer consumers the ability to have different versions of the same movie on different devices in the home -- that's something we're working on." If thats true, well then the PS3 is a must buy. And please, what for do I need HD-DVD if bluray has a bigger capacity and a stronger movie business support? What can I do with HD-DVD if most of my favorite movies won't be released on this format? Even if I wouldn't be interested in PS3 I would surely go for the format with the bigger support and this is what most people will do, even those that ain't into gaming. 10 -

about PS3Unregistered - some guy 02.09.2006 07:22 I have a PSP. On the bus I now watch tv shows that I record the night before on my PC (tv video card) and tranfer to my PSP in the morning. This lets me go to bed early on work nights and still not miss the simpsons and Family Guy before I get to work. Not to mention the MP3s I have on it and the games. Now, just to put more stuff out there, I also check my email and surf the net while eating lunch at the restaurant I go to with a wifi hotspot. With the Xbox 360, I can.... buy more points to get games I could download for free on my PC... oh wait.. I can hook up my PC to it and... oh wait I do not have a media center PC. I could play ports of games I have on my PS2!!! And they look nicer... but have less options (madden). Ok, so my x360 is not what I hoped... but it my evolve. With the PS3 I am going to get... I can hook up my cable to it and record TV, I can download movies or tv shows I missed. I can watch my TV anywhere in the world with my new location free update to my PSP I just downloaded (ver. 2.6). Not only that, but my PSP is now able to control what my PS3 is recording back home from over the internet! My Playstation network is also hooked to both my PS3 and my PSP making it a true online community for all my gaming products. The Ps3 is going to be monolithic compared to the 360, in fact the 360 is already looking a little wrinkled. 17 -

Another thing you should know is that my or the most other good PC screens handle higher resolutions than any HDTV on the market. Well for a HD-DVD you also have to pay at least $500. The disadvantages of this format are that the discs have smaller capacity and poor supportb from the movie business.
