According to Gamasutra.com, DevStation, Sony Europe's yearly development conference for Sony platform developers, will this year focus exclusively on game development for the PS3.
The conference, which will take place in London's Brick Lane from March 1st to March 2nd, has posted an extensive agenda online, which includes significant discussion on the Cell chip, graphics, art, performance, audio, networking, and a new tool named PSSG, which is described as "a PS3 optimised cross-platform graphics engine and tool-chain."
There will also be a third-party demonstration and a lecture from Unreal Engine creator Epic, as well as middleware input from companies such as Havok and Ageia, who have already officially signed up to provide their physics technology to PlayStation 3 developers.
More information on the conference is available on its official website, which notes: "DevStation 2006 is a PlayStation 3 Development Conference, to receive a delegate space your company would have to have an executed TMLA agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe." Sony never developed some dream demos, if they showed demos, the final games looked at least as good as the demos. Why I bought the original Xbox...Unregistered - Cray 01.12.2006 20:11 I remember back when Microsoft was talking about the original Xbox. Yes, I DID have a Dreamcast. But sitting right next to it was the original Playstation. I was playing Quake and NFL2K on the Dreamcast online, and that was awesome. I kept up with all of my Playstation games at the same time. But you didn't see anything like Seaman(who when I told I liked Shawshank Redemption went into some detail about Stephen King, and that was REALLY cool.) Anyway, that was around the time I was reading in magazines about how Microsoft was talking about coming out with a console and the PS2 was also just being talked about. Microsoft was saying everything I wanted to hear as a gamer at that point. Broadband online service(and after playing both PS2 online and Xbox Live online, Xbox Live is just so easy to find my frineds... which is why I like it so much, plain and simplye), hard drive(I don't HAVE to buy a memory card?), downloadable content(I can keep updating my games), I can rip CDs and listen to them in game(although at the time I thought it was going to be like the 360 now... any game at any time). And they were making it pretty powerful. I was excited about NFL Fever because every game your players stats could change and then if there were changes, you could download them. But other than, I didn't know what else to be excited about as far as software. I was excited about PS2 as well, but there wasn't a single game inparticular that I was excited about. I was excited about both sets of hardware, and I have played both ever since. I do love my Xbox even though I had a lot of problems with the very first one I bought. I have bought and sold my PS2 two times, accidentally threw it across a parking lot once, and bought a replacement for that. I think both systems are awesome, but when it comes down to playing all night with friends, I stand by my Xbox and Xbox Live. When I want to roll up a big pile of crap, I play Katamari on PS2. Sorry that was so long, but that is my answer. 36 -

I played all consoles including 360 since NES and was a Nintendo fan before, but they screwed N64 and thats why I converted. From what I saw and played, I wouldn't give a penny for 360. Seriously that is all I have is my opinion... Socom 2 and socom 3 are better than Halo2. The single player game of Halo2 kicks ass, but when I go online I meet up with the people on XBOX Live. We don't need to wait when the proof is already here in the form of PC Nvidia Cards and Ati Cards. All the hardware reviews at legit sights point to Nvidia as leader in real world game graphics. ATI's newest R500 series cards, in most cases, do not compete against the current offering of Nvidia. Some websites suggest that if you are an owner of an ATI 800 series card, not to uprade unless you are planning to fork over the cash for an ATI 1800XT. Ouch, that's sad! It's even worse -- MS and ATI had to slap a daught die (chip -EDRAM) to get the performance they needed out of an already dead GPU in the XFLOP. The real truth is Sony made the right decision and went with Nvidia King of GPU's. Masakazu Suzuoki, Sony's lead designer on Cell, says Sony aims to use this power to create movies that are interactive and changeable, with multiple story lines, so people will watch the same flick more than once. Another idea Sony is kicking around: placing ads in the background of movies and TV shows and customizing them to suit the viewer, with Cell processors keeping track of who sees what. Breakthrough chips easily inspire such big ideas, but Cell enjoys a running start that previous chips didn't have. It is likely to end up in millions upon millions of homes around the world as the PlayStation 3 rolls out. Once these Cells throb away in game consoles, TV sets and set-top boxes, they can be fed digital fare by new networks of Cell-based servers. "As the clients become very powerful, then the servers will have to become very powerful, too," Kahle says. The PlayStation hook inspires confidence at Raytheon, the Waltham, Mass. defense contractor, which has studied Cell for 15 months and plans to use it in scores of next-generation systems. "Sonar, infrared sensors--there are hundreds of products that Raytheon designs that could use this type of technology," says Peter Pao, chief technology officer. "Current chips are going to run out of steam. We always look to the future." At Mercury Computer Systems in Chelmsford, Mass. engineers are working on a Cell system called Turismo, which is due later this year and will pack up to 128 Cell chips into a 6-foot-high rack, producing up to 25 trillion calculations per second. Mercury, which sells modules for medical gear made by General Electric, Philips and Siemens, says Turismo could make a CT scanner so fast that it will be able to paint a 3-D image in four seconds versus five minutes on an Intel Pentium. Mercury is even pushing Cell to firms that create computer-generated special effects for movies. "This chip is opening doors for us," says Joel Radford, a Mercury vice president. Back in Austin Kahle talks about "immersive interaction," 3-D virtual worlds modeled with such detail that you can see, from your screen, exactly what it looks like when you're standing on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street in Manhattan. "This is going to open a whole new realm of how people interact with computers and each other, where we'll mix reality with virtual reality," he says. For his entire career Kahle has been driven to create a chip that could change the world; now, he says, it has arrived.
