Will PS3 be Ready for E3?
10 Jan 2006 12:09 | Webmaster | Playstation 3
PS3Today.com | Link to this article

Though most of us had hoped for some big PS3 announcements at the recent CES 06 show in Las Vegas, deep down inside I guess we knew that it wasn’t very likely. CES 06 is already just a faint memory, and we are now looking ahead towards E3 2006 where we will be playing MGS4 on the hundreds of PS3 booths available. Or maybe not?

If Sony is serious about their plans to launch their PlayStation 3 spring/summer 2006, this years E3 is no doubt going play a huge role in their launch strategy. I think both gamers and most members of the gaming press are expecting Sony to have the final build of both the machine and the controller ready for E3. Another round with tech demos is not going to cut it, this time only real playable demos of the launch titles running on actual PS3 hardware is going to please the crowd. Of course Sony knows this, and E3 2006 has probably been marked off on their calendar ever since they started working on PS3.

The only problem is that people working on PS3s are reporting that the console is far from done. Apparently Sony are still working out bugs in the hardware, which leaves us guessing if a spring launch in Japan is at all realistically possible or just wishful thinking from the gaming community. So even if they won’t have PS3 booths at E3 06, they will have tons of playable demos to show running off dev kits right? If not tons of demos I think at least we will see playable versions of MGS4, WarHawk and possibly even Killzone. Though I suspect that Sony is not planning to show any real footage of Killzone until it at least resembles the stunning trailer showed last year. The current status of Killzone is anyone’s guess since Guerrilla haven’t talked to the press about the game since May 2005 when they first showed the PS3 Killzone trailer. We are of course holding our fingers crossed, hoping that both Sony and Guerrilla will deliver the goods. Feel free to share your own E3 2006 predictions in our comment section.

it will not be ready unfortunately, and hearing rumors that it is having similar probs to the xflop360 but these are rumors such as overheating, even melting devkits prob exaggeration but who knows. Well losing faith might consider jumping back onto the good ole nintendo. peace.

I am NOT a Sony fan, but if I had to bet money, I would bet they have at least 6 games playable (even if on Dev kits) by E3. The system may not launch on time, but Sony knows their fans are grumbling for something real at E3, and they will provide it for them.

PAUL CERULA 01.10.2006 13:05

Ha, 6 playable games at E3, your dreaming way to high. Even for most ps3 fanboys. I don't even think they have that many launch titles announced.

Basically this is my prediction for E3:

PS3 will have maybe two demos at most.
PS3 will have those demos running off of a hard drive or DVD
PS3 will have two trailers that will advertise games coming out more than a year from now.

As for the rest of predictions:

Japan Launch in mid July
America Launch in October/November
Europe Launch in November/December
All launch games and many after that will be in DVD and not blu-ray

Pual what are you on crack, you know E3 is not next month it's in May. Stop thinking like a fanboy because you know there will be more than two games ready for luanch, Your funny.

Sony having problems or not the ps3 will still release in the spring around May or June.

"All launch games and many after that will be in DVD and not blu-ray"

Oh you mean just like when you said it will be 5-7 years before movies start to come out on blu ray.

Pual for your sake, when you post try not to think like a fanboy.

7 - ps3 2006 vs x360 2005 e3
Unregistered - agent864 01.10.2006 13:26
Using the X360 launch as a template, Last year Microsoft officially announced the Xbox360 in May on MTV prior to E3 and at E3 had playable demos running on Dev kits. All for a November launch. It wasnt until October that they had a pre-launch event with pre-test-cycle but mostly finished games running on actual hardware. I believe the production lines started in August of 2005.

So for a spring launch in Japan (May / June 2006) Sony will have to put on something similar to Microsoft's October 2005 event at E3 this May. Sony is already behind what Microsoft did for their launch, they should have had playable demos at CES 2006 for a spring launch. Not that Sony would follow anyone else's launch schedule. Production lines would have to ramp up by March '06 at the latest.

IMO in retrospect Sony was wise not to show anything PS3 at CES. Too much noise, too much clutter, too many other announcements to distract. E3 is more focused on games, better yet they should hold their own unveiling event. At least we know Nintendo's plans for E3 -- that they're going to let us know what their plans are at E3. With Sony being non-committal only fuels this energy sapping flame war baiting speculation that is a total waste of time. I dont know if it will impact anyone's purchasing decision. I personally view all the rumours and speculation as just that rumours and speculation.

I would hate to have a November US launch for PS3 because of holiday demand. It better be in September 2006 or then I'd rather wait till spring 2007.

From what I've read I think Sony is unconcerned about Xbox360. Personally I haven't seen anything that would make me want to invest in the X360 over the PS3.... yet. I just hope that Sony launches a console that is truly finished.... that I wont have to install firmware patches on to fix bugs, that it wont overheat or crash, or that the bd rom drive bd-java engine doesn't work.

9 -
PAUL CERULA 01.10.2006 13:56

Havoc,

Once again your very misunderstood on what I said.

1. Yeah sony will use dvds for the launch games, they won't need to use blu-ray.
2. I didn't say blu-ray movies would be out in 5-7 years, i said if they win the format war that would be the time frame that they would be the NEW STANDARD.
3. Also that if your buying the ps3 for blu-ray than you might as well wait a few years for the ps3 to come down in price. The uncertainty of hd-dvd and blu-ray is still there.

PS3 IS NOT READY... PERIOD. If it's not at CES 2006, then it won't be at E3. Too much clutter at CES? Then why did Sony put out an empty shell of a PS3 and scripted demos of games the last minute at CES... I'll tell you why, they don't have the system ready, and they needed to appease those who are interested in the PS3. Basically, everyone. Again, read the article from the Inquirer. It's a great source of reliable info from the insider:

Unregistered - agent864 01.10.2006 14:24
The PS3 hardware is not done right now. That doesn't mean its not going to be done by E3 and the production lines up and running by then. Although, according to the Inquirer article, a source of information I generally trust, (and trust is all I have to go on) it may be wishful thinking that the final PS3 production ready unit will be ready by E3. Which definitely throws off a spring launch. Microsoft chose to show playable demos on dev kits at E3 2005. Sony chose not to show playable demos on dev kits for CES 2006. We can only speculate as to the reason. It may be a purely marketing decision, or it may be technical. They may not have wanted to distract development away from the final product. I dont know. I am disappointed in Sony's CES 2006 performance wrt PS3 and its other products, they still have a long way to go to turn themselves around. Are you happy now? Still doesn't mean I want an Xbox360 right now. I'm willing to wait and compare.

15 - THE REAL TRUTH
Unregistered - THE REAL TRUTH 01.10.2006 14:29
Hearing about it and actually seeing it are two different things. If CES 2006 is a reflection of things to come, then I believe it. An empty shell of a PS3 and scripted demos are all that its got going... then I believe it. The PS3 isn't coming. So far, the dates that you're telling me... I'm taking it with a grain of salt... Basically, USELESS information.

16 - and what qualifications do you have
Unregistered - agent864 01.10.2006 14:48
to be able to say without equivocation that the PS3 will *not* be ready by E3? Do you have inside information that no one else has? Are you a hardware engineer? You're only going by what you read in these reports. I only said that it *may* be ready by E3 but that it might be wishful thinking, simply restating what was reported in the Inquirer article. So I'm really not disagreeing with you, just offering my opinion based on news reports. I stated that Sony should have *shown* something playable on dev kits at CES 2006 if there would be hope of seeing a final product at E3 2006. It doesn't mean that they wont, just to me makes it more unlikely. And you expect to get useful information from reading blogs? Lighten up and act like an adult, if you are one.

PAUL CERULA 01.10.2006 15:33

There's no doubt that the biggest hit against sony will be the fact that in Europe and America there will be a shortage for christmas and quess what else will be available. The 360 will definately capitalize on that like the psp did this year. In these two areas a Q3 and Q4 launch is inevitable. And their shortages will be much worse because of the blu-ray.

20 - THE REAL TRUTH
Unregistered - THE REAL TRUTH 01.10.2006 16:02
@16 - Yes, I am a hardware engineer, and no... I don't work for MS or Sony. I'm going by what the industry is reporting. All the information I'm saying are comments of my own based on whatever inside information I have and what information I recieve from reputable resources such as the register and the inquirer. Sony went last minute to put a empty PS3 shell with PS3 scripted game demos playing nearby. Why? To appease the huge number of people asking about the PS3. Kinda makes me wonder where the MGS4 demo was? I'll tell you. It was a scripted demo used at last year's E3. An elaborate scripted demo that they don't want to use again at CES 2006. Look, if you want to prove me wrong, then show me a working system... even an alpha-unit with a playable demo. If you can't show me that, then all this talk about specs and dates are meaningless. In my eyes, the PS3 is just made of sugar and spice and everything nice. Meaning, don't tell me about a system that doesn't exist. SHOW IT TO ME with all the promised graphics and features!!! By the way, when I mean alpa-unit, I mean a system that isn't as large as my refrigerator. But the system that can fit in the form-factor that Sony PS3 shell.

here is a direct qoute of Josh Robinson but first here is something about him:
Josh graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art with a degree in Computer Animation. He's honed his art skills by working on such games as NBA Street and March Madness 2002 for EA Sports. In his free time, Josh enjoys swimming and mountain biking, and the occasional bouts as a professional NHB Fighter.
and here is what he said:
"I’ve spent some time the past year developing for the PS3. Actually it was a cinematic demo to be shown at e3 in 2005 at a closed door viewing. I was one of the few artists selected to work on it for the demo. My job was primarily asset creation. I was creating assets to populate the path where our camera would be flying during the demo. The company I work for is also working on a launch title that I am quite familiar with. In short, I’ve spent some time around the PS3 and or the teams developing for it.

...

Now I’ve spoken with people who are on the technical side of the PS3. I’ve also talked with people on the technical side of the XBOX 360. The consistent comment I am hearing from people on my end is, “The XBOX 360 is better”. They are saying that it is capable of just doing more."
enough said.

The PS2 and PS3 hardware specs cannot be compared. So why do we need to compare launches? The PS3 has a lot going for it, however, it has all these bundled new technologies that they are going to have their share of problems. More than the typical because they are doing more than any technology company can offer. I even wonder if the cell processor is the root of the problem. If it is, Sony should have used a main-stream processor than try something totally new.

People are forgetting "final devkits" were only sent out in December, they are still producing these, PS3 will be going under testing and such as we speak, no one puts an electrical device out without testing. A final machine will defenately be ready for launch, considering devkits are complete already. Stop reading all these biased websites and just think about things will ya, jeez... Sony want people to play playable demo's on actual PS3 with the final controller, not on devkits, the final design of console and controller are'nt yet complete, but wont take too long as hardware is finalised, only the asthetics are left to finalise and I dont see why a "REAL" PS3 cant be ready for February, if Sony actualy show it then. It will defenately be ready for its planned launch date and I will put money on it.

@30 - Those dev kits you're talking about... It's great to hear that developers are receiving thousands of dev kits, but doesn't it make you wonder why so close to a possible PS3 launch in the Spring? I mean... let's get real. How long do you think it takes to develop games? If you say that developers will take six months to develop quality games is far fetch. It's more like the average year and a half to two years to make games. Now, the PS3 is supposed to be released in Spring. That leaves six months for developers to build games and beta-test them before release. I don't think so. Only the developers that had access to the beta-kits were able to make the games. Which means if the PS3 is going to be released in Spring... Don't count on them having a large selection of games. Again, the reason why I see the PS3 not showing up in Spring. More like the end of the year, if that.

37 - The Systems are not Comparable
Unregistered - GoHomeXboxFans 01.10.2006 20:02
The System's are different. Microsoft went with the tried and truely tested norm.
Sony went with radical different approach. Actually I am quite disappointed in the way some programmers from game companies have responded to Sony's approach. It's complete laziness to not want to explore new possibilities in both hardware and software. No matter how you look at it Sony's machine is technically more advance and powerful than Xbox360 and it's up to the programmers to exploit it. Ah the days programmers program for the Love and Art of programming. It's sad that some programmers have fallen pray to the corporate world way of thinking which is take no risks, production over innovation and Take our mula. Nintendo has made this clear on several occassions and has proven that innovation in the software world doesn't necessarily need powerful hardware to sell. Sony is trying to capture both worlds, Game and the Entertainment markets. MS is clearly targeting their xbox fan base which will remain that way with the xbox360. There is nothing wrong with that. Nintendo does it and they're still around. Sony on the other hand is trying to be everything and that is a bold step. We can at least give them the credit they deserve for trying. It may or may not flop who cares at least they tried. Xbox or Xbox360 doesn't offer anything different from what I have on my computer which is why I don't own my xbox anymore (The only game I miss is DOA). The PS2 had little more to offer as far as giving me something different at first but the Gamecube was a perfect companion to my computer gaming experience. It had alot of different types of games that wasn't offered on my computer and they were FUN to play. Sony and the PS2 crowd learned from Nintendo's success and started producing some excellent games that were different and FUN. MS just couldn't get it going on the XBOX and was stuck with a bunch of software knock offs (boring). Kameo is a perfect example of a game that looks good but is not as fun to play as Zelda Windwalker or Jak. It gets very repetitive quickly and the control scheme is not as polished in my opinion -- but it has potential. Xbox360 is making progress in this area but we will have to wait and see when Final Fantasy and other role play and platform games come out for it. Again, the xbox360 is a continuation of the Xbox not truly a new platform (I'm talking features not hardware). Sony is trying to redefine the gaming and entertainment world and if done right will truly be remarkable. Are we to blame Sony if PS3 games never live up to the power of the machine (assuming the hardware is flawless) if programmers are to lazy to learn and develope the means to exploit the hardware? No of course not. This can also be said for Xbox 360 as well. Let's stop hounding Sony and MS and hound the companies making the games. The games that came out before Christmeas for the Xbox 360 pretty much
sucked. That doesn't mean the Xbox 360 is not a capable machine. It means that the fault is on the software companies for designing and releasing the games in their present condition. The Gamecube is supposedly not as capable as the Xbox, yet we have Resident Evil 4 that rocked and looked incredibly good even compared to some PC games of the same type. So stopped bashing Sony and MS. They both (and always will) have their own strengths and weakness. We need to take it out on the Software companies for all their crap they try to sell us. Since Sony has no games or game system out yet it's a mute point. Xbox fans should be raising the torch at the castle of MS threatning with their torches to hang the evil software scums or be replace with a new King. No matter how much you scream kick or shout at PS3 forums telling everyone "it isn't going to get any better waiting for the PS3 get a Xbox 360 " will not change the quality of games that come out on your xbox. I can garauntee that even if PS3 Flops, not every sony fan will rush out and buy a Xbox 360. Oh, Xbox 360 numbers will increase but alot of Sony fan's will wait to see what Nintendo has to offer and Nintendo's system launch record is alot better. Remember, Sony's fan base was converts from the nintendo and Sega era and will probably go back home to Mama (cliche). My sole reason for waiting to see if Sony will deliver is that I hate the cluttered look in my TV room. The less electronics I have the better. So I tend to pay out the nose for sytems that have it all built-in. If Sony can deliver a game system, Blu-ray system for
the rumored $400-$500 in one compact design that beats out MS's design of add on multi-components that add up to ($400 for system, rumored $300-$400 for a HD-DVD that's $700 to $800 bucks -- not a smart buy). The arguement that not alot of Blu-ray movies will surface for at least a year will also work for the HD-DVD guys as well.(At CES the were more titles announced for Blu-ray than HD-DVD)

But an event in February was announce a while ago but was cancelled instead Sony is supposably going to have a different event thats supposed to be a surprise for gamers. But I would take this information with a grain of salt untill Sony reconfirms this.

They're not all trustworthy either, John Carmack for instance says he prefere's X360's processor design over PS3's, the real truth is he prefere's working with DirectX applications, as that is what he's used to. The Unreal engine by Epic games can easily be used on PS3 because its OpenGL based, Epic games had no problem getting UT2007 running on PS3. So as you can see, there is a difference of oppinion between developers. Carmack basicaly preferes the tools for X360 and isnt too keen on learning something new.

I don't see a Spring launch happening. Fall..? More probable, and even then units will be in limited quantity.

Sony's gotta be a bit nervous. All it takes is one or two big glitches, and they're suddenly in 2007 territory, leaving Nintendo to get the jump Japan & MS to take advantage in the U.S. Last year, I saw hardly any people in the forums (here and elsewhere) who breached the topic of jumping ship for one of the other companies. Now, I'm starting to see it more and more often.

Good luck, Sony.

And how did you come to the conclusion, that PS3 will launch in fall? is it because Sony hasn't shown anything yet? because I can put that straight right here now. PS2 didn't show anything until 2 months before launch, it also launched exactly when they said it would. Just because one company does something different to another, doesnt automaticaly mean they are behind. So what if Microsoft wanted to show stuff earlier, which was mostly unfinished stuff, Sony likes to WoW people and they will let rip with all the playable goodness when they are ready, just like they did with PS2.

Just like the controller? are you saying PS3 is makeing a remote control for PS3? wow I would have never guessed that. If Sony is copying Nintendo's controller how come Nintendo's controller doesnt look like a boomerang? LOL

What things have Sony copied from Nintendo that makes you think they are makeing a controller like Nintendo?

I didnt see you said, rumble pack, for 1 sony has never used a rumble pack, it was built into controllers, not only that it wasnt made by Nintendo, a company named immersion invented the technology.

Here are the inventors of rumple/force feedback:

Both Sony and Microsoft stole the force feedback from the small California company called Immersion. The only difference is Microsoft is using the proprietary technology under contract now. So they have to pay royalites to Immersion. Sony, being a Japanese company is too proud to say they stole something from someone so their fighting in court. Unfortunately they'll eventaully lose and have to pay up like Microsoft. They better anyway... because the Dualshock without the Dualshock just isn't the dualshock... :)

60 - PS3 may be launched in Spring or may not...
Vanes 01.11.2006 09:03
Anyways, only time will tell and why are you all worried about the PS3? First of all, it'll most likely be a few months(after the Japanese launch) before PS3 will come out in America(or maybe Sony will make a world wide launch but probably not), and the Europeans will probably get their hands on it around falls/winter. So what's the BIG rush? Don't you have other consoles that you like to play with? Consoles like the PS2 aren't DEAD, as a matter of fact there will be plenty of fun and interesting games that are going to come out later this year. Sony even said that the PS2 would last an other five years or so after the PS3 would be launched (Which is a bit much I would kind of give it a couple of years). So, it wouldn't hurt to wait a few more months, to give Sony the time to fix up their next-gen console if there are any problems with it(there are just sooo many rumors flying around that you don't know what is good/ bad anymore!). For the XBOX360 buyers out there: Ok fine you bought the console good, you should be satisfied right? Then why do you come and annoy the people that are willing to wait for the other consoles to decide which one suits them best? Not every is an XBOX fan, so don't force people to become one! remember one thing: the older consoles are still great!(who cares about the graphics as long as the game is fun everything is cool!! )

PS2 was playable before it came out that year at TGS and E3 before it came out. Not at a sony meeting 2 months after it came out..as that would be kind of stupid to have it "debut" after it is already released to the public.

Actually to be technical Ken Kituragi promised playable PS3 demos back in Sept at the TGS. That was when PS3 was suppose to debut to the world in playable form. As we all know sony didn't live up to that promise. Instead they opted to show the MGS4(real-time) tech demo. So something is definitely up..at least in my opinion. There are too many things pointing towards Sony having problems with PS3 to be ignored. While I don't think all of the rumors are true, I do believe there is some truth to them. Only time will tell though.

When did sony announce a sony event in japan? I don't remember reading this anywhere. What playstation meeting are yall talking about?

Sony will have Blu-ray

MS will have Blu-ray or HD-DVD attachment drive for movies/games

Basically MS is going to win either way in the long run once a format is decided on. Yeah their are PR downsides but who cares. You won't need blu-ray disked games for a year or two anyways.

What if by PS3 launch before christmas MS bundles a HD-DVD or BLu-ray drive onto a premium package for the same or lower price of a ps3.

So many things up in the air right now. Sony doesn't know every MS strategy that's for sure.

with each day that passes and more bad news about the ps3 , hddvd launching before bluray, cell chip production problems, no real games
sony is not going to be king this time round.

and to those who said they would rather buy a revolution rather than a 360
why??? so you can play "another mario" or "another zelda" or freekin pokemon ??
last time i looked my gamecube had no driving games, no good fps (metriod was okish) no good beatemups , no good action games....something tells me the rev will be the same old same old. the only good game was resi 4 and that came out on ps2 ?

why would you say something as dumb as that ?

just what have you got against the 360 and/or microsoft ???

I've read the posts. And I know all of you are anxious to get the PS3, but if Sony doesn't keep to the time table(Spring Release) then I think it would be best to write to Sony. No one likes to be toyed with. Sony should put out an exact date, or even say the month of the release. Saying that the PS3 would be released in the same time frame as E3 doesn't make any sense. You can also make the argument about how the PS2 release wasn't public until 2 months before, but at the time, it wasn't competing with other console releases. That I can't argue. These are different times. The Xbox360 is already released... The Nintendo Revolution will be released be the end of the year... The PS3 is no where to be found. Folks, this is the year for console releases. Even though the PS2 has a huge share of the market, why would you want give any of it to your competitor. They better have a working system by E3. If they couldn't have one working system by CES 2006, doesn't that indicate something is going on? Again, they showed off an empty shell of a unit and scripted game demos. Even if they the PS3 playing scripted demos would've been cool. At least, I know that there's hardware inside. But the innards of the PS3 were empty. Sony even announced that they would not talk about the PS3 at CES 2006, but they went ahead anyway because everyone was asking about it. If they were going to show it at CES 2006, then at least get a working model or don't show it at all. Even the speech by Sony corporate doesn't mention PS3. If they can't get a working model by CES 2006, then can they have a production model ready by Spring? Here's my prediction. Will they will have a working model at E3, maybe. Will it be pubicly released in Spring? Nope.

I buyed almost every console since NES & i have been wating for every launch of these. Sony, ALWAYS have the people talking, especulating, bulls....., etc, until they have the console ready with all what they need to show te real thing. (PS1, PS2, PSP). This means 2 to 3 months early launch day. Evaluating all these years in console gaming, i think that now we are in a golden. Today we have PS2, XBOX, XBOX360, Game Cube, PSP, DS, Advance, PS1 (millions of peoples still use it every day!) and thousands of games. With all of this in mind, i think we have market for all the new contenders (millions of people upgrading their gameplay and naturally new buyers too). The XBOX360 and PS3 are charging too much weight over their shoulders, old gamers (i'm 29) are waiting for stunning hardware and creatives and uniques games, new gamers are coming for fun and action. The launch titles of 360 were poor in imagination and quality, in some cases good graphis but only a little upgrade over PS2 and XBOX (similar to the launch of PS2 compared to dreamcast). This tell us that the programers aren´t ready for next generation gaming. If PS3 come tomorrow to the market, the games will be like 360´s, and Sony isn´t looking for this situation. They have said that they are qualifiying tne games that can be release in the console, that the new games will be revolutionary (like the hardware) and that in the living room of our houses we will expirience a new definition in content and media, and with all of this they have created a very huge expectation around their console. I think the PS3 is almost ready, retarded because the BluRay specification was finished the last week, and some polish to the designs of console about heating, noise, etc (microsoft show off the console without doing this!?!?, some actual consoles are overheating in gamers hands!?!?!?). I think the PS3 demos and games will destroy all the bullsh.... that some people are creating, and like Kojima say it can be done on XBOX360 with minor changes (why programmers haven't do it????). In Conclusion and in my opinion, the PS3/revolution are not delayed or retarded to the arena, the XBOX360 come very early to the fight without a prewarming and trainnig ,and maybe they have lose terrain doing that (without a high definition drive to begin).

From theinquirer.net and the CES article(http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28879):
[QUOTE]
The problem is that people working on PS3s tell me that it is far from done. Several companies are hip deep in hardware debugging as you read this. Not that it is hugely surprising, after all, it isn't out yet, but one would expect that the hardware is nearly finalized and the bulk of the work is on the games right now.

Now, if Sony fixes the bugs tomorrow, due to the time it takes to push a spin through the fabs, you won't see final PS3 silicon until March, April for boards and consoles in small quantities. Add another month for ramp up, and you are talking May for availability if absolutely nothing goes wrong.
Sources have told us that this rosy scenario is at odds with the work going on right now, expect debugging to go on for quite a while yet. Add minimum 4 months to the end date, and you have a possible release time. The long and short of it is, don't expect a PS3 before E3, and even that is a very long stretch.

honestly this is gettin old and fast... it really doesn't make any sense for you all to continue recking ur mind on when the Ps3 launches... reading these articles and going by what some people say is just a load of crap... i can understand the disapointment in many people about the lack of playable demos for the ps3 at the ces 06 but really that convention was not for gaming... it was for tech nologies and electronics... walkmans, computers, phones, cameras. the atmosphere for the gaming was far too clutter and noisy... even the psp eventhough being a game device was used at that show to show it's more technical features utilizing the the Location free player... we all really assumed that this was the big unvailing of the ps3 and thats why we got dissapoint... and this was due to the fact that we listen to "reliable resources" it just means nu shouldn't count ur chicken before they hatch.... simple put this talk about when it's gonna launch and how many games it's gonna have is really just over axious people... it doesn't make sense to say that, just because the MS desided toi show stuff on dev kit at E3. keep in mind that they had to do it because it was their onmly chance to get eyes on them for the next few months from the public. and saying that Sony wont even have games done is foolish for E3... thats just madness biased X-box fan or people who just cant excercise some patients... Sony nows what they are Doing They are Ten years deep in the First party gaming development industry with 2 generations crowns to they're title with that under your belt are u gonna go a head a show playable demos knowing that u'd take the public with flashy realtime footage... Ur a big comany whos got the industry on lock u dont have to show off and pull out the big money and market the playable demos until time is needed... only if u were microsoft who didn't do to well with there first system get the point people... if the Ps2 dawning is any indication then the system is really set for a spring launch... a confrence to put it all into play and two big events one in march and E3 to show a final Sytem with launch games that will most likely be done on final Dev kits and actual hardware.... u may find some beta kits game here and there bbut the majority will be.... i just dont understand why people can say that games wont even be completed on final dev kit... the Xbox360 19 of it's 20 launch game and launch window games were all completed on beta kits 19 and they looked from ok to good and the one game that got a little touch up and polish from the final kit was DoA4 and that was because it was purposely delayed so it can tighten up the Online aspect and in doing so got the quality was shown at E3 last year...
so that guy saying that no ps3 games will be completed on final kits is highly unlikely. final Dev kits for the Ps3 went out early december and with just about 3-4 month left to tighten graphic and every other aspect they can polish, which is plenty of time as of pose to MS giving out Final kits the month of launch, which is why madden as good as it looks did not match up to that spectacular trailer back at E305... all i'm say is to wait and see toughen up and grow some balls and wait it make no freakin sense to loose sleep over an issue like this because we keep trying to pin point sonys next move out of our anxiety, be greatful that sony chose to give us Trailers in real time and the little news we know... as of pose to Nintendo where we only know that "it's soppose to be really cheap, it's controller is a remote and that it's black and small" it's like people only know how to fuss because is being descrete and strategic by just showing us this... they have some thing big planned and all we have to do is wait... why is everyone bashing sony because of the decision to be secret about there next move... i dont see any of u all getting mad at nintendo who is like seriously shrouded in mystery even more than sony... we have no playable demos and not even Trailers of any revolution titles just a silly video show casing concepts of what the controller should work... and yet we are all content and able to accept that ... and wait for it excercise the same freakin patients and Shut the F*** up u honestly don't know how irritating it is to see u all act so foolish of a wait... u wait over 6 years for both the ps3 and the Xbox 360(gamers and xbox fanboys) now just wait a few months and be amazed when the time is right they will do it and knock our socks off... they know what they are doin the have had the crown for 2 generations of gaming and they can do it again

Look, if Sony wants to be secretive about the PS3...FINE. But, they said they wouldn't talk about PS3 at CES 2006...Well, they have showed it off at CES 2006. They said that UT2007 would be a launch game; Epic games says it will be finished when they are finished; meaning not a launch title. Sony says that they would have a working demo by now. Well, where is the working demo? Look, I just want Sony to live up to their plans, instead of telling all of us LIES. That's really what I mad about. Is that how they want to do business? All I'm asking is for the truth. If they say that it won't be ready by next year. Fine...at least that's the truth. By doing what there doing, it only feeds the fire. Sony want you to play the real console not devkit mockup

I own a 360 and yes the games aren't that great yet, but that is the key word "YET"!!! The Playstation 3 is going to be great, but just like the Xbox 360 the first wave of games aren't going to show you the true power of the machine. They (meaning PS3 and X360) are both powerful machines and they both have something to offer. Playstation 3 will probably be at E3 and they will probably have playable demos all you guys have to do is be patient. I'm also waiting for the Playstation 3, but for now I have a great powerful system and that's the Xbox 360, and if I were all of you I would purchase one. Xbox 360 is going to have better looking games in the future just like the PS3 wait and see. Remember the first wave of Playstation 2 and Xbox games? They were horrible (except Halo) and they didn't look that great but what happen year or two later they started looking great. Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 are going to be great systems just give them a year and then the real fun will begin!!!

True sony make the announcement that it would have a booth... but for what it was for there other lines of product, Cameras, tvs, walkman, phones mp3 players, computers and other multimedia devices... see thats was there goal to show case those because it just wasn't the time for the ps3 to break us off with anything new other than the fact that over 4000 final dev kits have been shiped. Honestly guy this is really what happens when u take things out of proportion... it's wrong to call Sony a liar if it was never confirm or documented that New information will be given... and for ur info guy the Ps3 was the last part of their presentaion not a last minute thing which was an amalgum of montage videos and speech of what the ps3 will do for sony's future a s the successor to the Ps2 so get it right... all that was said inform was that sony is expected to show the ps3... now in all those article post leading up to that day it was antipated and and assume that since it was a large booth New things concering the Ps3 three was on the rise... and i believe it or not thought that but i never said or read anywhere that it was concrete information that we'll here somethin new... so guy as reliable as those "respectable sources are they have their whites every where... thats why u should read between the lines and inturpert it the right way because it just sounds to me that ur one of many fanboys who are caught up in assumption and anxiety eager for any thing PS3...
i honestly hope u dont take this the wrong way or anything but i had to say what i had to say as a person who looks at the whole picture, i read the articles and came away with the new but u can see where the author(s) tweeked it abit..

This is not a personal attack, however:
I am really trying to read your comments but use some capitals and maybe even type it in Word and hit spell check. Maybe less periods...
Wjen ou said "Patients is a frakin virtue," I thought that my grandma in the hospital was something we should all have. When I read it aloud, I got it. Of course, spell check wouldn't catch that, would it? Nice job, typing all that, but OW!

And I do agree that patience is a virtue. But seriously, Sony is talking about a spring time launch, and there have been no comments on pricing, release date, etc. I am a video game fan, so when Microsoft said Nov 22, I planned for it. I took off from work that day. I put money aside a little at a time to pay for it and the games. If Sony plans to spontaneously launch this thing, it is going to suck. I don't see that happening, but even the most rabid fans need some sort of real news to satiate the hunger we all have for the PS3. And an article about a computer that is twice as big as I am and using the cell definitely does not cut it. I think anybody waiting for a PS3 has all the right in the world to be a little feisty for some info. I am not looking forward to trying to play all of the games I want to on both next-gen consoles, but it looks like a lot of fun trying.

You leave stupid comments made by what you call assholes on the site but you erase the asshole who didn't cuss but made a valid point. In the GPU war, Nvidia is always a step ahead (or two) ahead of ATI. It is true, that the GPU in the Xbox360 is based on the new cards ATI released recently but it is optimized. However the current cards offered by ATI don't compete against the best of Nvidia's current generation of Graphic Cards. We can assume, that it at least matches that of the 7800GTX but we have no real world comparison since the Xbox360 is the only one with the Specialize Ati graphic processor( basically slapping on a specialize Dram for framebuffering). However, Nvidia and Sony have mention that the new Graphic Processor that is going into the PS3 (and quite possibly computers this year) is at least 2-3x faster as 7800GTX. It's funny how it turned out the way it did -- Ms went with the standard General purpose processor in a Three core flavor but went with ATI's radically new GPU. Sony went with the Radically new type of CPU but stuck with the tried and true standard GPU. However, despite the new achitecture being introduce Just recently by ATI in computers, it has not competed with nvidia's current offering xcept perhaps the 7800GTX vs the ATI1800XT. There are a number of reputable sites that have posted benchmarks but real-world gaming results show Nvidia is still the favored. My opinion this shows that normal programming techniques are not going to work with the new ATI processor. Programmers are going to have to did deep and learn a whole new bag of tricks to optimise their games for the ATI
GPU. The same has been said for Sony's CPU. Programmer's definitely have their cut of for them. However, well just have to wait and see who picked the better design.

Actually you get it right..Immediately following E3 (if not during E3) Ken Kituragi promised PS3 would be playable at TGS. That stuff about them wanting the demos to rival that of the E3 trailers is Sony's attempt at GOOD PR. Of course they are gonna say "we want the demos to be at their best quality"....who wouldn't? They were behind schedule at TGS those comments about demo quality prove it. If you read the link below..IGN starts this article off by saying Kituragi had been promising playable PS3 at TGS..then they go into that other BS stated by Saeki. They didn't have anything to show...that's why it wasn't there.

I watched the whole E3 press conference, Sony didn't mention anything about playable content at TGS, they said what I said earlier. I also said I dont trust IGN anymore in another article, because they cant review games properly and give games the scores they deserve, not only that they have to lie about things, The IGN podcast for instance, if those guy's worked for official PS mag they would know that MGS3 came out after MGS2, listen to the dumb ass who said it. Sorry but I just dont trust IGN anymore, neither do I trust the Enquiry.

They never said they were going to show playable content at TGS even after E3, it was only mentioned that they could use playable content at TGS, but because it was the first showing in Japan they wanted to show the same as what was shown at E3, not only that, they dont like useing devkits, to show off playable content, they want you to see the machine and use the controller you will use when you buy the final product, hence PS2 only showing playable content 2 months before its launch.

If you can find Ken Kutiragi quoted as saying that, then I admit I was wrong and I apologize

OK I found the quote, but doesnt directly say there would be playable content:

"Speaking at the PlayStation Meeting in Japan last week, Kutaragi said: "We hope to use the Tokyo Game Show as a chance for everyone to get to know, or possibly experience, what next-generation entertainment is all about."

"Possibly experience" can mean anything.

I'am a huge fan of MICROSOFT AND SONY but microsoft has done and better job than sony period this time around.showing cg videos does'nt cut it at all.sony has an ego with them calling the xbox 1.5 well im calling sony fakestation3 if sony dont show any games on the floor there done.well microsoft first gen games are impressive.by the time fakestation3 come out microsoft will be rolling out there second gen games.like gears of war,too human,halo3,the outfit and etc.it is very important to have an external drive because if hd-dvd failed microsoft can switch to blu-ray. if sony failed they cant because blu-ray is internal into there system.and fight night round3 looks identical its going to get better when its released.its a hype thing for sony

Here was the PS2 launch. Look familiar? It should. If history is any indicator they are right on schedule maybe a little off this round but think about it. Sorry all you haters.

November 27th: 1998 - Sega RELEASED the Dreamcast in Japan at 260$. People thought the graphics were awe-inspiring.

Sony doesn't even unveil their next system until March 2nd: 1999. During the initial unveiling, no games were shown, no tech details, Ken talks about the Emotion Engine.

Sony finally formally unveils the PS2 all the way on May 11th, 1999, a full 3 months after the initial announcement of the system. But still, no games are shown, nothing but a few technical details on the system itself.

September 9th, 1999. Sega releases the Dreamcast here in the United States. System sells out, flies off shelves, gamers are amazed at Soul Calibur.

February 18th, 2000, Sony for the first time shows off playable PS2 games to the public during the Playstation Festival. Nearly a full year after the systems unveiling. Dreamcast still selling strong in the US, falls flat in Japan.

Playstation 2 goes on sale in Japan on March 4th, 2000. Not even a month after the initial playable demos of games were showcased. Even without any first party titles or big name titles, THOUSANDS of people line up to take home the console. Stores are sold out before they officially open and a little less then a million consoles sell. Sony later announces a 980,000 unit mark and 500,000 of those being sold through Playstation Online.

May 10th, 2000. Sony announces plans to ship the PS2 to the US in October.

September 20th, 2000 Sony announces difficulty of manufactoring PS2's for the US due to a new graphic synthesizer design that failed.

October 26th, the Playstation 2 is released in the US selling 500,000 consoles at launch with 100,000 consoles per week hitting stores after that, always selling out. PS2's remained sold out until March 21st, 2001 despite the 100,000 a week shipments

it is much easier to make games on the 360 than the ps3.i dont think ps3 will make it to e3 period.its not ready there just going to show another cg video. thats the bottom line.having a cell prossesor or not dont mean anything.just bring out the games.games make or break the system.sony and nintendo will have the same bug problems when there system releasd.just like microsoft.and paying $500 to $1800 dollars for a ps3 and blu-ray is out the question.hd-dvd all the way sony should have made an external drive than an internal drive.its cool to have a new disc format blu-ray.please someone make a unified format to end this silly war.
