Emergent Technologies has announced that it is developing a version of its Gamebryo 2.1 game engine for the Playstation 3.
Speaking at the Austin Game Conference, Emergent’s president and CEO Geoffrey Selzer stated,
“We’re making the technology, tools and middleware that we believe will usher in the next phase of innovation in game development and game play […] The next generation of games will require greater innovation while facing increased complexity and costs of development.
We are driving the state of the art of game development, offering visibility into and control of the development process.”
Game engines are big business these days. Epic Games, creators of Unreal Engine 3 is making big profits by licensing their game engine to other game developers. Emergent has already released an Xbox 360 compatible version of Gamebryo 2.1. So far we know only of one 360 game using the engine, “Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion”, but judging by that game this engine looks equally impressive to the Unreal Engine 3.
