First of all I would like to apologise for taking so long with the update. All I can say is that when you are dealing with thousands of lines of programming code, delays are not uncommon and I guess that goes for both game demos and game websites.
As I said in my first post, this latest update would include some changes that most likely would upset some of you. Yes I can now confirm what some of you already guessed, that we have merged Xbox360News.com and PS3Today, and our less known Wii site into one large game news site. Before you all scream blasphemy and start throwing rotten tomatoes and apples at me I first like to explain why we decided to do this.
So why did we do this? The answer is simple really. Because we know that the Xbox 360 and PS3 news channels at the new site will outperform these two sites when it comes to PS3 and Xbox 360 news. The only logically thing to do was to merge these sites together so that Xbox 360 News would become the 360 news channel and PS3 Today the PS3 channel, much in the same way like IGN PS3 and IGN Xbox 360.
I know some of you are now thinking how on earth we are going to a keep the forums under control. The site now requires people to log in to post comments , and we also have a new spam report system in place which should help keep the site clean.
The new site is a bit more advanced than the old sites, though we didn’t want to make things too fancy as we wanted the site to still be 100% focused on game news. So concept of the site remains basically the same, in that the news is posted by the members. However we have added new features that will make things a bit more interesting. You will now be able to attach high res images to your news posts, and create an image gallery to go along with your posts. Another cool feature is the Alternative Source function. If more than one of you submits the same story but sourcing different websites, these stories will now be grouped together. This will especially be handy for the all webmasters that have been submitting their articles to the old sites for traffic as they now will be able to add all their stories if they want to do so.
The new site also has four different user account types. Gamer, Game Journalist, Game Developer, and Industry Professional. This is to give a better picture of who has submitted a news stories. My hopes are that we can get developers to regularly post about their project on the site.
There are also a few other features that I didn’t mention but these you will have to find for yourself, and keep in mind that the site is still in beta so minor design changes and a couple more features will be added in the coming weeks. All user accounts have been transfered to the new site so if you already are member you don't have to register your account.
The site is News4Gamers.com, I am looking forward to hear what you think.
